What actually happens during an RMR metabolism test?

During a Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) test, your metabolic rate is measured while you're at rest. Here's a general outline of what typically happens during such a test:

Preparation: Before the test, you'll be asked to avoid food, caffeine, and exercise for a specific amount of time (typically around 4 hours) to ensure your body is in a truly resting state.

Positioning: You'll be asked to sit or lie down in a comfortable position. It's important that you remain as still and relaxed as possible during the test.

Measurement: A mask or mouthpiece connected to a metabolic analyser is placed over your nose and mouth. This device measures the oxygen you breathe in and the carbon dioxide you breathe out.

Data Collection: You'll breathe normally into the device for around 10 to 20 minutes. During this time, the metabolic analyser will measure the rate at which you consume oxygen and produce carbon dioxide, which allows it to calculate your resting metabolic rate.

Interpretation: The results are then analysed to determine how many calories you burn at rest in a day. This information can be used to help plan a personalised nutrition and exercise regimen that's tailored to your body's specific energy needs.

RMR testing at Box Nutrition & Performance is a straightforward, non-invasive procedure. Here's what you can expect:

1๏ธโƒฃ Preparation: You'll arrive at the test fasted (overnight), well-rested and avoiding any strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours before the test. These conditions help ensure accurate results.

2๏ธโƒฃ Settling In: Once you've arrived, we'll have you relax for about 15 minutes. This helps your body reach a true resting state.

3๏ธโƒฃ Testing: For the test, you'll be asked to breathe into a mouthpiece connected to a machine called a metabolic cart. A nose clip ensures all the air you breathe goes into the machine. This test typically lasts between 10-15 minutes.
