NCASS (Nationwide Caterers Association) The UK's Trade Association for Caterers. Advice, law, & ways to trade safely, legally & profitably. We ask that everyone who uses this page respects that.

NCASS started out as MOCA, the Mobile & Outside Caterers Association in 1987 when a group of mobile caterers banded together to get a better deal for mobile catering businesses. Over time we developed tools and resources of value to all catering companies and to reflect that we became the Nationwide Caterers Association in 2005. We have been industry leaders in numerous fields, developing our own Due Diligence systems to the principles HACCP long before Safer Food Better Business, the first online level 3 training course, the first online sustainability in catering course and much more, all delivered to members at the lowest possible cost. In October 2013 we entered into a government sanctioned Primary Authority Partnership with Cherwell District environmental health to develop 'assured advice and guidance' for our members and for use by environmental health & enforcement officers, covering all aspects of our business, but also to act as a conduit between industry and enforcement/government, developing best practice and industry knowledge. We were also asked to join the Business Expert Food Hygiene Group by the Better Regulatory Delivery Office (part of the Dept of Business Industry & Skills). The BEFHG meets with industry experts and government representatives to advise on the impact on business of food hygiene regulation and the practicalities of its implementation. We are able to raise issues for discussion as well as commenting on issues relating to our customers and industry. This forum is open for all to use, however, it's main focus is to enable easy access for our customers to raise issues with us and discuss the industry. For this reason we ask that non-members do not post adverts or promotions on this page as we will remove them. Our members pay their hard earned money to be part of the association and their needs are our priority. We couldn't do what we do without them, their feedback and support.

Behind Derventio Wood-Fired Pizza Co. is a passion for hospitality, flavour and creating memorable experiences at events of all kinds.

Founded in 2024 after decades of experience in the hotel and restaurant industry, the business combines traditional wood-fired pizza techniques with a chef’s creativity and attention to detail.

We spoke to the founder, Andrew Sutton, about the journey from hospitality professional to pizza specialist, the craft behind their 48-hour fermented dough, and why cooking pizza live at events adds something truly special to any celebration.

Behind every street food business is a story of risk, resilience, and starting again.

Before launching Truly Torta, Andy Dobbin spent more than a decade running a successful sandwich shop in Newcastle city centre. When COVID hit, the business - built over 12 years - came to an abrupt end, forcing him and his family to completely reset their lives.

After stepping away from hospitality, Andy eventually found his way back to food, inspired by time spent travelling through Mexico and learning directly from street vendors whose approach to flavour, technique and tradition left a lasting impression.

With limited resources but a clear vision, Truly Torta was born, focused on authentic Mexican tortas and a commitment to doing things properly rather than chasing trends.

In this Q&A, Andy reflects on rebuilding after loss, the lessons learned from Mexico’s street food culture, and what success looks like the second time around.

Following this discussion, NCASS is proud to support a cross-sector letter to the Chancellor calling on the Government to:

✅ Cut VAT immediately
✅ Reduce National Insurance
✅ Deliver meaningful business rates reform

While the letter originated with hospitality businesses in the West Midlands, it represents the voice of the wider UK hospitality sector.

This is about standing together as one industry.

It’s not about special treatment, it’s about survival. Protecting jobs, supporting growth, safeguarding our high streets, and securing the future of one of the UK’s most vital sectors.

The hospitality sector needs your support.

NCASS is backing a national campaign - led by the NTIA and Institute of Hospitality - calling on the UK Government to reduce VAT for hospitality and the night-time economy, bringing the UK in line with Europe.

A targeted VAT cut would:
✅ Provide immediate relief to struggling businesses
✅ Stimulate customer demand
✅ Protect jobs across the sector
✅ Boost economic activity and generate long-term tax returns

Hospitality businesses are vital to our communities, culture, and local economies - and they need action now.
