“I know I’m horrendously lucky to have it.”
This is Liz giving a big smile during her monthly infusion of plasma medicine. 😊
Every month the 77-year-old visits Guy’s Hospital in London to receive immunoglobulin. This helps strengthen her immune system following treatment for a rare blood cancer called Waldenström’s Macroglobulinemia.
Liz is one of the 2,000+ people to have received immunoglobulin made from UK blood and plasma donations since March - when patients started to get this treatment.
She makes the most of the regular hospital trips, joking: “I get the train and arrive early because the canteen has fantastic hot sausage rolls and hot chocolate. Then on the way back I stock up at Marks & Spencer!” 🛍️
Once a blood donor, Liz is extremely grateful to everyone who donates to help her stay well.
“People don’t always know what plasma is or how it helps,” she says.
“It keeps me going - and I’m so grateful.” 💙
