‘You just have to get through it’

This was what I was told by many people and also believed for 8 long months of getting up anything from 2-6 times per night! It was through a desperate search on google that I came across a gentle infant sleep consultancy service, which was the start of the most incredible life change to come. After just a few days I started to see huge improvements and my little 8 month old boy started to sleep through the night :) Naps were another story however and they can take a little longer to master but after just 2 weeks he was napping in his cot in the day which I had never managed to get him to do before. I now have a baby that sleeps for up-to 13 hours per night and naps in his cot in the day and he is happier than ever (as are we as a family). I learnt so much during this supportive and gentle process that it inspired me to do my training to become an Infant Sleep Coach and help other families in desperate need. The key learning for me was that despite all of the information being out there, the complexity of knitting together the right strategies (underpinned by behavioural science) for you and your baby is where the skill really comes in to play. In addition, the reassurance and confidence that the approach you are using is the right one for both your baby and family circumstances helps to ensure commitment and consistency and moreover success! So my response to anyone who says ‘You just have to get through it!’ is... you really don’t! You can actually be a happy healthy functioning parent with a happy healthy functioning little one and start enjoying life again :)
