Cure Leukaemia

Cure Leukaemia Cure Leukaemia funds research nurses at UK blood cancer centres, giving patients access to treatments through clinical trials.

This support drives global significant advancements in blood cancer, impacting those affected by the disease. Cure Leukaemia funds the national Trials Acceleration Programme (TAP) which delivers and gives patients access to globally significant and potentially life-saving blood cancer clinical trials. Cure Leukaemia funds specialist research nurses in 12 UK Hospitals and a facilitatory Hub based in Birmingham to accelerate setup, patients recruitment and delivery of pioneering blood cancer clinical trials. Through TAP trials can be setup in as little as 6 months compared to the standard timescale of up to 2 years. With more supporters, we will fund more nurses, we will run more clinical trials, we will save more lives, we will find a cure.

Our Sydney Marathon team is 75% full, with runners joining us from across the globe 🌍🏃‍♀️ We asked one of our runners, Georgina, about why she’s taking on the marathon:

"My sister Katie was diagnosed at the age of 15. I was able to give her bone marrow, which helped for four years. Sadly, Katie’s leukaemia returned in a rare form, and she lost her fight aged 22. Her loss has left a huge void in our lives, and we miss her every single day. During this time, we also lost my Dad. I know he'd also be proud I'm doing this for Katie. I am running the marathon on her ten year anniversary and to raise money to help find a cure for this disease."

"In a clinical trial, 77% of patients went into remission, external after treatment, with half showing no signs of cancer after three and a half years."

A powerful example of how clinical trials are benefiting blood cancer patients and we are delighted to support Dr Eleni Tholouli and the team at Manchester Royal Infirmary through our funding.

Oscar Murphy has an aggressive form of the blood cancer and is the first to get CAR-T therapy in the UK.
