🌱 Just delivered training on “Understanding Autism and ADHD in Children’s Residential Care”. An incredibly important (and often misunderstood) intersection between neurodiversity, trauma, and attachment.
The training was delivered by our Director, Dr Lucky Ganatra, Clinical Psychologist specialising in paediatric neuropsychology.
This session brought together teams working in children’s homes to deepen understanding of how neurodiversity, trauma, and attachment interact, and what that means in everyday practice.
🧠 We covered:
🔹 Why trauma and neurodevelopmental conditions often overlap
🔹 How executive functioning, sensory needs, and emotional regulation impact behaviour
🔹 Why meltdowns are not misbehaviour, and how to support children safely through them
🔹 Practical tools for creating predictable, relational, and low-demand environments
💡 Key takeaways:
✨ “Support the nervous system, not just the behaviour.”
✨ “Adapt the environment, not just the child.”
✨ “Your relationships are the intervention.”
✨ “Behaviour is communication.”
✨ “Meltdowns aren’t misbehaviour.”
✨ “Trauma and neurodivergence often co-exist, and require care, not control.”
💬 The work you do matters. Your relationships make a difference.
Thank you to all the residential professionals who show up for our children, consistently, patiently, and with compassion.
