One of my favourite teaching moments this weekend in Istanbul.
We explored pelvic floor biomechanics using the “Ship and Water” model.
• The pelvic organs are the ship
• The ligaments and fascia act as the ropes
• The pelvic floor muscles provide the active support
It’s a simple way of explaining a complex concept and helps clinicians understand how passive and active support systems work together in pelvic health.
Understanding these principles is essential when treating conditions such as:
• Pelvic organ prolapse
• Urinary incontinence
• Postnatal dysfunction
• Pelvic pain
Fantastic discussions with a brilliant group of 30+ physiotherapists.
Teaching internationally and seeing pelvic health physiotherapy continue to develop is incredibly rewarding.
