There is not much in life you can do that is good for you, good for other people and free all at the same time.
But giving blood just might be one of those things.
This is of particular benefit if you are a generation X folk like us (40 to 60ish) and have the typical problems of high blood pressure, high cholesterol etc.
Regular blood donations (you can donate every three months in the UK) has been linked with:
- lowered blood pressure
- lowered cholesterol
- lowered risk of heart disease
- lowered iron stores
- reduced cancer risk
- reduced forever chemicals in the body (PFAs)
- improves liver health
- burns around 600 calories per donation
As another benefit, I tend to feel great after donating, many do it seems, so whilst that may not help your long term physical health, it certainly gives your mental health a boost to do something to help others - particularly at this time of year!
So, rather than top up the billions that the wellness industry is making selling us pills and potions, instead find your local donation center over at www.blood.co.uk and improve your health whilst helping someone else.

Happy X-Mas.
