Driver CPC – What's New?
If you’re a professional driver of heavy goods vehicles (HGV’s) in the UK, Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) is something you’ll likely already be familiar with. It’s a legal requirement designed to maintain high driving standards and road safety across the industry.
Every five years, drivers must complete 35 hours of periodic training to stay qualified.
So...What’s New? The Introduction of 3.5-Hour CPC Modules
Historically, this training has been delivered in 7-hour blocks, usually making up 1 day of training for each module.
But, with the DVSA’s recent changes, approved training providers can now offer 3.5-hour modules. This new format gives drivers and companies more flexibility to structure training sessions around operational needs, shift patterns, and availability.
Whether it’s breaking down training over shorter timeframes, combining modules on different days, or simply allowing for more digestible learning, this change is designed to make staying compliant more accessible than ever.
