โ€œPersonally, itโ€™s the patient relationships that make this job so fulfilling. Cancer is one of the hardest journeys a person can face, and being able to support someone, often over months or even years, through food and tailored advice is a privilege.โ€ ๐Ÿ’™

Meet Krishna Kholia Parmar, Macmillan Dietitian and Prehabilitation Project Lead at Heartlands Hospital.

Krishna has gone from a newly qualified dietitian, to leading a pioneering dietitian-led prehabilitation project for patients undergoing stem cell transplants or CAR-T therapy; one of the first of its kind in the UK.

Sheโ€™s passionate about combining her love of food with making a real difference to peopleโ€™s lives, helping patients become physically, emotionally, and nutritionally stronger before starting intensive treatment. This dedication has been recognised by winning two British Dietetic Association (BDA) awards in 2024 and 2025.

After more than 30 years of dedicated service โ€“ including an incredible run at Heartlands Hospital since 1999, weโ€™re wishing a very fond farewell to the wonderful Carmel Carney, who retired last week. ๐Ÿ‘‹

Carmel has been a much-loved and respected Operations Manager for the Renal Unit, playing a key role in supporting patients and staff alike. Reflecting on her time with us, Carmel said: โ€œIโ€™ve loved working at Heartlands, and Iโ€™ve enjoyed every day. Iโ€™m now looking forward to my retirement.โ€

She plans to spend her well-earned retirement travelling, looking after her grandchildren, and in her own words: โ€œtaking each day as it comes.โ€ ๐Ÿ’™

Thank you Carmel for all your hard work. We wish you a happy retirement.
