It’s International Nurses Day and we want to celebrate the amazing contribution of Stoma Care Nurses.🧑‍⚕️

Our advocates have shared their messages to Stoma Care Nurses and in return, we are contributing to a charity close to the hearts of our Salts Nurse Team – Chameleon Buddies

Chameleon Buddies was founded in 2022 by Gill Castle; Gill has a permanent stoma following complications in childbirth. The charity provides hope for people living with life changing injuries in the UK and Kenya, following childbirth.

Did you know that over 500,000 people in United Kingdom are affected by IBD?

That’s 1 in every 123 people, with symptoms ranging from mild to severe. This can include diarrhoea, abdominal pain and fatigue, often impacting their daily lives and mental health.

1 in 4 newly diagnosed are under 16, and it is now estimated that over 7 million people throughout the world live with IBD, according to a 2024 IBD UK Report: The Sate of IBD Care in the UK.

There are plenty of resources to help those with IBD:

Crohn’s & Colitis UK - Provides specialised help and support for residents in the UK, including information on disability benefits and rights, as well as a symptom checker.

IBD Services Map - An interactive map to find your local hospital's IBD team and contact details.

Next up in our Stoma Vocab Series is Ileum.

The ileum is the final part of the small intestine. Its job is to absorb nutrients and move waste into the large bowel. In an ileostomy, this part of the bowel is brought to the surface of the abdomen to form a stoma.

Do I have to be in to receive my delivery?
No, Medilink® can deliver your supplies to a designated safe place. We can deliver your items to an alternative address in the UK, such as your workplace, if required.

When you place your prescription order, just let us know your preferred delivery and any special delivery instructions.

Do you have allocated time slots?
Yes, we can set up 2-hour timed delivery slots with text or email notifications. Contact your local Medilink® dispensing care centre so that we can set these notifications.
