We were there for an open morning for our new project "With Nature in Mind" which starts in January.

The 12 week programme is free to join and created with and for people from global communities to help them connect with nature, learn new skills, grow some veggies and get creative in a safe and supportive outdoor space. And yes, tea and biscuits will be provided. 😃

The project is being run in partnership with our good friends who are doing some amazing gardening projects all over Birmingham and it is very kindly supported by funding from and

If you are interested in joing please DM us and we will get you booked on.

We had a great time yesterday working with an amazing group of inspiring and talented people who are all members of a support group for LGBT+ refugees and asylum seekers living in the Coventry area.

Our friends put together a creative workshop exploring identity and well-being with much singing, rapping and poetry and even a little bit of dancing.

The workshop was part of our on-going community programme inspired by Revealed, a play about black men, mental-health, family, sexuality and a whole lot more, which has just finishes a succesful run at The Belgrade.

We have been working with Lottie and Adel at the theatre and Rachael .mind to produce a programme of events and workshops, with local communities, that get us all talking and sharing stories about mental health and well-being in creative ways.

Look out for details of upcoming events, including our 2nd Black Men on the Couch event, here and an our website.

We’re pleased to bring you Black Men on the Couch on Thursday 10 October 2024, at 7.30pm at the .

Hosted by talking therapist the event will feature academic and activist and writer and actor .

Some of the men previously featured on the couch include Benjamin Zephaniah, Ashley Walters, David Lammy and Stan Collymore.

Black Men on The Coach was developed by Rotimi Akinsete a Black male counsellor, to help combat stigma and to encourage all, but particularly men who identify as Black, to openly discuss their mental and emotional health, and think about counselling and therapy as a form of support.

There are many barriers to men of African heritage talking about their problems and worries; this initiative highlights this issue while offering the ‘couch’ to high profile men. This is great for younger Black men – or indeed ALL men – who see these role models go public with their emotions.

The event is being hosted as part of the upcoming production of the play Revealed, at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry.

A new production of Revealed is back for a two-week run at the in from October 18 to November 2nd.

The play explores black masculinity, identity and relationships from the perspectives of three generations of black men who are locked inside their family restaurant during protests invoked by an incident in police custody.

The original production was a collaboration between Red Earth Collective and based theatre company and played to sold out audiences at the Midland’s Arts Centre in 2019 before a three-week run at The To***co Factory in Bristol in 2022.

Red Earth Collective will also lead a series of conversations exploring black men’s and manage a community engagement programme across the .

Sandra Griffiths from Red Earth Collective who co-produced the original performances is really looking forward to the new production, she said: “It’s fantastic that the Belgrade are committed to Revealed and are working with us to stimulate conversations about mental health. Revealed addresses some very difficult issues with compassion, sensitivity and humour and with a real understanding of the lives of black men. I think its as relevant today as when we first starting developing the idea with Dan and Husna at Rites of Passage in 2017 and I am really happy that it is going to reach new audiences.”

Applications are now open for our Artist Development & Training Programme. Apply by 22 August!

The Red Earth Collective, with the support of The Baring Foundation, is running an Artist Development and Training Programme to enable artists, across all disciplines, to support people with mental health issues.

The free programme will begin in late September 2023 and will take place in Birmingham, UK.

It will be delivered by established artists and mental health professionals and will provide practical advice, training, information, guidance and paid work experience opportunities to help artists to develop their skills and experience to deliver creative workshops and projects in mental health settings.

The Red Earth Collective is a Black led organisation and the majority of our team have lived experience of mental ill health. As such we strongly encourage applications from artists from ethnically diverse backgrounds, those with lived experience of mental health issues or disability, who are neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+, on low income and other underrepresented artists.

Apply by 4pm on 22nd August. Read more and download the application form here https://www.redearthcollective.org.uk/post/artist-development-programme
