Run with at the UK’s biggest theme park, Alton Towers, on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 November 2025 for a 5k, 10k and Half Marathon and kids race around the park.

You’ll be joining the likes of the Hall family. Dad, Matthew, and his two sons, Callum, 11, and Joseph, nine, are running to say thank you for the treatment and care their daughter and sister, Amelia, seven, received for a hole in her heart.
The family knew nothing of her congenital heart defect - it had not been picked up during mum, Laura’s pregnancy, and Amelia lived the first six years of her life as a happy, healthy and active little girl. It was only when she developed tonsillitis and the GP decided to listen to her chest that they heard what they thought might be a murmur. Amelia was referred to the hospital for a scan and the family were shocked to discover she had a hole in her heart. The hole was too big to close via keyhole surgery, so she was booked in for open heart surgery, which she had earlier this year.
The surgery was a success, with just a short stay in the hospital and, thankfully, Amelia only needs to return for check-ups every six months.
Matthew was so impressed with the care she received, that when he saw a poster in the hospital for Run Alton Towers, he decided to sign up to say thanks, and make it a family affair with his sons joining him. Matthew will be running the 10K, while his sons are taking on the kids’ race, and Amelia and Laura will be cheering them all the way! So far the Halls have raised over £1,000, with £300 of that being raised in just one week through donations from Matthew's supportive colleagues at Sandland Packaging.

"Our world flipped upside down in a matter of seconds."

Last month, Harper's family received the devastating news that she has a cancerous brain tumour.

Her dad, George, shared: "It started with something so small: a slight drift in her eye and a little stiffness in her side. Our gut told us to get it checked."

At our Children's Hospital, Harper was diagnosed with a large brain tumour with fluid buildup. She underwent surgery, which went well, and most of the tumour had been removed.

Recently, Harper started chemotherapy and we want to send her and her family lots of strength and support as they begin their journey ❤️

George added: "This is the start of a long road, but Harper is a fighter, and we know she can do this. She has been a true warrior, stronger than her years, braver than we can describe."

Thank you to Harper's family for sharing their journey with us for

The UK government is testing the Emergency Alerts system this Sunday (7 September) at 3pm. Compatible mobile phones and tablets will receive an alert, make a loud siren-like sound and vibrate. You will not need to take any action.

The Emergency Alerts system is used to warn if there’s a danger to life nearby, including extreme weather. Regular testing ensures the system is functioning correctly, should it need to be used in a life-threatening emergency.

The Haemophilia nursing team has teamed up with Stitch, Pascal, and Sadness to help our young patients and put them at ease during treatment.

Often found sitting on the shoulders of Natalie, Allia, and Katy, these distraction toys can help shift the patient's focus away from a medical procedure, leading to a much more positive experience and building trust between the healthcare professional and the child they're treating.

Baby Phia was born with severe aortic valve stenosis. It's a condition where the main valve, which allows blood to flow from the heart around the body, becomes narrowed.

She was transferred to our Children's Hospital as a newborn and at 11 days old, had open heart surgery to repair the valve.

Her mum, Bailey, shared: "Every single member of staff was exceptional and we will be forever grateful for the care we and our daughter received during such a scary and uncertain time.

"A huge special thanks to her surgeon, Natasha Khan, for everything. The job she does is absolutely incredible and we can never thank her enough, as well as our cardiologist, Dr Desai, who gave us so much compassion and reassurance from the moment we arrived at BCH. He even drew a diagram of the heart and explained everything that was going on and what they had planned in immense detail.

"It’s brilliant how, amongst a number of other patients, every single one is treated just as equally and important as everybody else, because the staff really put all of their time and effort into each and every patient.

Thank you to everybody else at BCH who are absolute superheroes!"

There's less than a week left to share your Main Entrance Memories, to mark the closure of our iconic entrance as it begins its big transformation. 📸
If your family has ever stopped to take pictures in front of the entrance, or with our bear or owl statues or even with Doodle the big red balloon dog as a way to capture your hospital journey, we'd love to see them. 🎈
We’ll be creating a special montage reel, which we’ll be sharing on social media, and would love to include your child and family. To get involved, simply complete our form and upload your picture outside the main entrance by Sunday 7 September.
We'd like to thank everyone who has already submitted their photos. Here are just a few ❤️

Not only that, but we’re sharing incredible news about our Generation Study, in which over 1,200 women at BWH are helping to detect rare diseases. We're also celebrating the £250,000 grant to fund a research trial to improve treatment for Endometriosis patients and cheering for our Star of the Month finalist and winner.

Meet our amazing teams and individuals who have been named finalists in the Charity Champion category for the Spirit Awards, our staff recognition event taking place in October✨

The category is for an individual or team whose commitment to fundraising knows no bounds, finding creative and inspirational ways to raise money for our organisation.

⭐One of those individuals is Sue Burlton, a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Sister, who was nominated for her role in the Help A Heart Appeal’s cardiac arrest prevention project. Despite a terminal illness, she worked hard to see a 40 per cent reduction in PICU cardiac arrests before she sadly passed away. Sue’s dedication, even amidst personal health challenges, embodies the Trust’s values, ambition, bravery, and compassion. Her legacy of improved care, staff empowerment, and patient-focused outcomes will be long-lasting.

⭐Our finalists also include Emma Sang and the Simulation Team who have been recognised for their exceptional commitment to cutting-edge training, developing a simulation programme which uses specially created props to boost learning.

⭐Also shortlisted are Dr Yifan Liang and the Paediatric Palliative Care Team at the Children’s Hospital. Yifan launched an innovative Paediatric Palliative Care Fellowship Programme, supported by Molly Ollys and the Trust’s charity, training two consultants in a two-year pilot to boost recruitment and deliver compassionate, holistic support to critically ill children and families.

Good luck all!
