Teal Patents

Teal Patents Designer and manufacturer of mobile sinks for hand washing, based in the UK and exporting around the world.

With washing facilities generally relying on old fashioned type fixed sinks with traditional taps often inconveniently situated, there is very little to encourage better hand hygiene. With the dangerous pathogens that cause infection having the ability to rapidly mutate into more virulent forms, also makes antiseptic hand gels and alcohol rubs quite unable to cope. TEAL have pioneered the developm

ent of portable and mobile hot water handwashing facilities to wash away these nasties and manufacture an ever growing range of innovative products to suit every possible type of application and need.

"In the mid-19th century, the Hungarian physician Ignaz Semmelweis’s observations and theories about the transfer of “cadaverous particles” on the hands of doctors led to the development of hygiene protocols, such as hand washing with chlorine, which resulted in a reduction in maternal mortality associated with puerperal fever."

World Hand Hygiene Day reinforces the hand washing message.
“Action saves lives!” is the call to action for the forthcoming event.

World Hand Hygiene Day 2026 is fast approaching. It takes place on the 5th May 2026.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is calling on “all those providing and supporting health care to refresh their action on hand hygiene and infection prevention and control (IPC), to ensure patient and health worker safety.”

Many infections that are acquired during healthcare interventions could well be avoided says the campaign website, with a “substantial” reduction in numbers resulting if IPC actions and effective hand hygiene are undertaken at the appropriate times.

The session offered will emphasise how important it is to be proactive regarding implementing hand hygiene improvements and IPC: examples such of improvements around the world will also be provided.

World Hand Hygiene Day objectives

There are three distinct aims for the initiative says the WHO.

1) “To promote inclusion of hand hygiene within national IPC action plans, as well as standard operating procedures at facility level

2) “To raise awareness about the WHO global action plan and monitoring framework indicator on hand hygiene compliance monitoring and feedback

3) “To highlight examples of IPC and hand hygiene improvements and encourage country action.”
