Approachable Parenting - 5 Pillars of Parenting

Approachable Parenting - 5 Pillars of Parenting Approachable Parenting- Guiding BAME families to better parenting. We offer Doulas, Sparklers, and a range of services to support you on parenting journey.

5 Pillars of Parenting programmes are parenting courses drawing on psychological and Islamic principles. The fundamental difference is that throughout our courses the centrality of the family in Islam and the importance of parenting is recognized. It presents parenting as a blessing and a responsibility upon parents, a worship that they can be rewarded for. For example the concepts of thankfulness and repentance in Islam are incorporated into the programme. Our services include:
Pre-Marriage, Marriage and Relationship Coaching
Pregnancy - 3 years
Parenting for 4-11 years
Parenting forTeenage
Train the trainer

The courses are delivered over 2 hrs per week and last for 8 week each. Throughout the course parents evaluate their progress and report the positive changes both to themselves and their families. Positive outcomes:
- improve communication with your child
- parenting techniques
- understanding your child better
- improve listening and communication skills
- helping your child to learn
- reducing difficult behaviour
- being more affectionate and merciful
- being a positive role model for your child
- gaining more parental self confidence
- be able to make links to Islamic parenting values and understand Islamic references to parenting and raising children

In 1985, one of the first Protective Behaviours training programmes took place in Adelaide, a movement rooted in the vision of Peg Flandreau West, who believed that feeling safe is our communal birthright.

Approachable Parenting are delighted to have worked in partnership with the Protective Behaviours Consortium for over 15 years, empowering families and communities with the tools to build safety, resilience, and emotional wellbeing.

We wish the Consortium continued success in their inspiring mission to create a safer world for all.

This World Mental Health Day, our hearts are with those living through the unimaginable.
War. Displacement. Loss. Grief that doesn’t get the time it needs to settle and be processed.

This year’s theme, Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies, is not just another theme we write about. for many, it's a daily reality. In places like Gaza, Sudan, and Yemen, even acknowledging mental health is not a luxury. They're in survival mode. And their healing can’t begin until safety, dignity, and justice are restored.

Islam honours the sanctity of the soul, the mind, and the emotional self. And our du'as are part of the healing process, as is standing up for justice.

May Allah grant ease to every heart burdened by fear, grief, and loss. May He bring safety to the displaced, healing to the wounded, and patience to the grieving and oppressed.
