🌍 Traditions Around the World
Go Out in Tune – New Orleans, USA

New Orleans is a city rich in music, food, and culture, so it’s no surprise that funerals here are filled with rhythm and celebration. A jazz band leads the procession, playing somber dirges and hymns as family and friends accompany the coffin to the cemetery. Once the burial is complete, the music shifts—lively melodies fill the air and a joyful gathering begins, celebrating the life and spirit of the person who has passed. 🎺✨

We help support families in all versions of their loved one’s final journey, and this is a tradition we have seen before.

17th–18th Century: Emergence of Undertakers

💙The term “undertaker” appeared in England during the 17th century. It referred to someone who “undertook” the organization of funerals.
Undertakers combined multiple roles:
Making coffins
Transporting bodies
Organizing ceremonies

💙Funerals became more elaborate for the wealthy, with hired pallbearers, decorative hearses, and processions.

💙By the 18th century, undertakers were seen as urban professionals, especially in cities like London, Edinburgh, and Bath.

A Box That Rocks – Ghana

In Ghana, funerals are vibrant celebrations honouring a loved one’s journey to the afterlife. One of the most remarkable traditions is Abebuu adekai—fantasy coffins crafted to reflect a person’s life, passions, or profession. From giant pens to mini planes, cameras to cannons, these extraordinary designs turn remembrance into a colourful, meaningful tribute. 🎨✨

✨ Happy Hug Day! ✨
A single hug can lift a mood, calm the mind, and strengthen the bonds we share. Today is a reminder that human touch is a universal language of kindness — one that needs no words.

Let’s spread warmth, support, and genuine connection. Scientists even say daily hugs can reduce stress and boost happiness — a perfect reason to share one today.

🤗 Go give someone a hug and make their day brighter.

Middle Ages

💙During medieval Europe, funerals were primarily religious ceremonies. The Church oversaw burial practices.

💙Roles of Caretakers: Certain individuals, sometimes called “sexton” or “biermen,” helped transport bodies and organize burial, but there was no formal profession as we know it today.

💙Plague and Epidemics: Events like the Black Death (14th century) increased the need for people to handle the dead professionally because mortality rates overwhelmed families and communities.
