Lets talk eye contact👀

For many children with SEN, especially autistic children, direct eye contact can feel uncomfortable, distracting, or overwhelming.

✨ Top Tip: Focus on connection over eye contact.
Try:
* Positioning yourself at the child’s level
* Using a calm voice and visual supports
* Allowing side-by-side interaction instead of face-to-face pressure
* Looking for other signs of engagement—listening, responding, body language, or shared focus

💡 Sometimes the best communication happens when we reduce demands, not increase them.

Every child communicates differently, meet them where they are. 💛

Sometimes, what looks like a “meltdown”… is actually frustration. 💙
When a child can’t express their needs, wants, or feelings, it can become overwhelming. That’s when triggers happen.

Communication isn’t just about words, it’s about being understood. 🌱

At SENtre, we support children with autism and additional needs through tailored, play-based learning 💫

Life as a special needs parent = the ultimate
test of multitasking.

One moment it’s therapy, the next it’s meltdowns, snacks, and all while searching for that one thing your child can’t live without.

It’s frantic, it’s overwhelming, but somehow, we keep going.

“Cocomelon is banned…” 🚫👀

You may have heard this and wondered why.

While shows like CoComelon are popular, fast-paced visuals, constant stimulation, and rapid scene changes can make it harder for young children to focus, regulate, and engage in real-life learning.

For children with additional needs, this can be even more overwhelming.

I’s about balance, mindful viewing, and choosing content that supports development. 💙

✨ Top Tip Tuesday ✨

Supporting your child’s communication doesn’t have to be complicated 💙

Simple changes, like following their lead, using clear language, and giving them time to respond, can make a huge difference.
Remember, every sound, gesture, or word is a step forward 🌱

Parents corner is here!✨

Supporting children with autism goes beyond communication and behaviour, it includes everyday challenges like eating too. 🍽️

Many autistic children experience difficulties with food due to sensory sensitivities, routines, or anxiety around new textures and tastes.

At The SENtre, support is tailored to each child, helping them build confidence, try new foods, and develop essential life skills in a safe, understanding environment.

Imitation is one of the most important ways children learn 🌱

From copying sounds and words to gestures and play, imitation helps build communication, social skills, and confidence, especially for children with additional needs.

✨ Top Tip: Start doing this with your children! When you imitate their sounds, actions, or play, you’re showing them they’re seen and understood, and this encourages them to copy you back.

Small moments of connection can lead to big developmental progress 💙
