Lets talk eye contact👀
For many children with SEN, especially autistic children, direct eye contact can feel uncomfortable, distracting, or overwhelming.
✨ Top Tip: Focus on connection over eye contact.
Try:
* Positioning yourself at the child’s level
* Using a calm voice and visual supports
* Allowing side-by-side interaction instead of face-to-face pressure
* Looking for other signs of engagement—listening, responding, body language, or shared focus
💡 Sometimes the best communication happens when we reduce demands, not increase them.
Every child communicates differently, meet them where they are. 💛
