At Better Pathways, we know how much community matters — whether it's sharing a chat during our coffee mornings, building confidence in our workshops, working alongside someone who understands you, or simply feeling like you belong.

The theme for this Mental Health Awareness Week is community. This week is all about celebrating the people and places that help us feel connected and supported.

Let’s keep building communities where everyone feels welcome.

We are calling on you to help us

When returning from the Winter Break we found that our building had been targeted with graffiti…again.

As we are based in Digbeth, we deeply appreciate the artistry and creativity in street art. However, as a mental health charity, having our building tagged is causing a negative impact.

Cleaning graffiti is expensive, and every pound spent on removal is money that could go towards helping the people we support.

Our building is more than just a building — it is a space of hope, safety, and support for those overcoming barriers associated with mental health challenges, neurodiverse conditions, and disabilities.

At Better Pathways, we run our three social enterprises and our seven employment and mental health support programmes, as well as mental health workshops, employability sessions, confidential one-to-ones, and skill-building activities. We want our building to uplift our participants and communities, but the graffiti on our building prevents this.

We kindly ask for your understanding:
➡️ Please respect our space and consider expressing your creativity on legal graffiti areas in Birmingham
➡️ If you see or know anyone planning to graffiti on our building, please encourage them to think about the impact on a charity like ours
➡️ If you had a hand in this graffiti and would like to make amends, we welcome your support in cleaning the graffiti. This could be a meaningful way to contribute positively to our community.

Together, we can make our city a place where people can create responsibly and where spaces like ours can continue to be a place of support and positivity.

We thank you for your understanding and support. 💙

Better Pathways is proud to support Future Economy Alliance and Social Enterprise UK's campaign - working to build a stronger, fairer, greener economy.

We believe in tackling the big challenges facing our society such as a growing prevalence of poor mental health and a lack of employability support and employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities.

Charities and Social Enterprises like ours are already adding significant social value to the operations and supply chains of organisations and commercial businesses across the UK. With more awareness of how we reduce social challenges, and with more support for what we do, we could do so much more!

To learn more about how together we can fix our economy and fix our future, check out the campaign at www.futureeconomyalliance.co.uk

This week, our team were at Ward End Library attending an amazing and meaningful coffee morning organised by Khairun from Hope Inspired CIC - a non-profit empowering women to develop confidence so they can lead courageous and purposeful lives!

It was a great opportunity to share the Better Pathways' many inspiring new employability and mental health support projects with the community in East Birmingham.

This coffee morning focussed on mental wellbeing, craft (rock painting!), and motivation, and it was incredibly inspirational to hear the many experiences and perspectives of the women attending, and how they have persevered and become confident from the support they have received.

Much of East Birmingham is in the top 20% most deprived areas in England. This has an impact on unemployment, health, education, housing, crime and living environment.

We are looking forward to working with the communities in East Birmingham to overcome barriers, and support with mental health and employment!

Widney Manufacturing Ltd has supported us by training the participants in our packing and fulfilment social enterprise, Better Packing.

Widney, a Birmingham-based manufacturer with a global customer base, has worked with our social enterprise for the past year. Better Packing provides Widney with outsourced packing, assembly, and light engineering support, and also helps to add social value to their supply chain.

Widney trained our participants on the manufacturing process for new products. They learned to operate machinery, perform assembly and light engineering tasks, work as a team, maintain inventory, and ensure quality control. The participants manufactured and assembled spring parts that will be used in vehicle blinds for commercial use.

We greatly appreciate Widney Manufacturing Ltd's support for our social enterprise and are excited to see the growth of this partnership!

We're celebrating our recent launch of two new projects delivered collaboratively between us and Sport 4 Life UK! Both projects are designed to improve mental health and well-being through physical activity.

Our group mental health support sessions and one-to-one mental health support sessions with participants have now started, and we're thankful for the great turnout!

Participants are gaining insight into managing mental health, anxiety vs worry, low mood vs depression, coping mechanisms, self-care, glimmers vs triggers, journalling, etc.

And from next week, our physical well-being sessions will begin!
