Home Instead - Central Birmingham

Home Instead - Central Birmingham Providing companionship, live-in care, and other care services to people within their own homes. We In doing this we are improving our clients’ quality of life.

Home Instead Central Birmingham has been operating since April 2009. The business was set up by Terry Cheung, who after personal experience caring for family members, decided that there must be a way to provide practical and excellent quality care for older people. Home Instead Senior Care are committed to making a difference. We regard it as a special privilege to look after people with love, care and compassion - and we take our responsibilities very seriously indeed. Our ethos is simple – treat others as we would wish to be treated ourselves. Each and every one of our clients has a care plan tailored specifically to their own needs. Whether it’s a trip to the park for some fresh air, a visit to the hairdressers, some help around the house or assistance with shopping, right through to medication reminders and post-operative support or respite care we are here to help. We also provide a range of specialist services, which include Alzheimer’s and dementia care, convalescence care and respite care. What’s more, we take time to carefully match our caregivers to clients so that they share common areas of interest and can form an immediate bond. We only employ the most caring, considerate and empathetic caregivers – people to whom making a difference to the lives of others is important. It is for this reason that we enjoy long-lasting relationships with our clients. Our caregivers are carefully selected, are CRB checked and have to provide six references. The Edgbaston Home Instead Senior Care Office is part of a global network of more than 975 locally owned and operated offices.

Eating alone now and then is not a problem. Many people enjoy the quiet. What families often do not realise is that when someone regularly eats every meal on their own, it can slowly affect appetite, routine and mood. Food becomes something to get through rather than something to enjoy.

Having company, even once or twice a week, can change that experience. A shared meal, a bit of conversation or simply someone sitting nearby can help bring structure back to the day and make mealtimes feel more human again. It is a small thing that often makes a bigger difference than families expect.

If this feels familiar and you would like a friendly conversation about companionship visits, our team in Central Birmingham is happy to chat on 0121 456 5559 or via homeinstead.co.uk/edgbaston.

Looking back, many people say there is one thing they wish they had known earlier when caring for a loved one.

That it is okay to ask for help sooner.

That small changes matter.

That you do not have to do everything yourself to be doing the right thing.

If you feel comfortable, what is one thing you wish you had known earlier? Let us know in the comments!

🌨️💚 A HUGE THANK YOU to Our Incredible Care Professionals 💚🌨️

Last weekend’s snow brought real challenges — but once again, you showed exactly what it means to be a Care Professional.

Through icy roads, heavy snowfall, and difficult conditions on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, you went above and beyond to make sure our clients were safe, cared for, and never left without support.

We have heard truly heroic stories:
✨ Care Pros walking for over an hour to reach their clients
✨ Care Pros driving carefully through slippery roads to ensure medications were given, meals prepared, and shopping completed
✨ Care Pros stepping up to support the schedulers, so no client was left without care
✨ And one incredible Care Pro who even stayed overnight in a communal lounge at a client’s building, knowing she wouldn’t be able to travel back easily the next morning — that is dedication in its purest form

This is not “just a job”.
This is compassion, commitment, and heart in action.

We are so proud of every single one of you. Thank you for your courage, kindness, and unwavering dedication — especially when it mattered most.

💚 You are the very best of Home Instead. 💚

People who come from retail, hospitality or admin often excel in care, not because the work is similar, but because the values are.

They know how to listen, notice the small things and take pride in doing a job properly.

Our longer, un-rushed visits with clients mean there is time to slow down, build relationships and give the kind of support that feels thoughtful rather than rushed, something many people have been missing in previous roles.

If this sounds like the kind of work you would enjoy, speak with our team in Central Birmingham on 0121 456 5559 or apply online at https://go.homeinstead.co.uk/3xJqzDl

This Cervical Cancer Prevention Week is a chance to pause, share awareness, and talk about how cervical screening helps protect long term health.

Almost all cervical cancer cases are caused by HPV, a very common virus that most people come into contact with at some point. Screening now checks for HPV first, helping to spot risk early and prevent cervical cancer before it develops. For most people, results are reassuring, and for a small number, early follow ups help keep them safe and well.

If you are invited for a smear test, attending is one of the simplest ways to look after your health. For information and support, visit https://ukcervicalcancer.org.uk/.

Taking care of yourself helps you stay well for the people who matter most 💚

Many parents find it hard to accept help from their children, even when they clearly need support.

Being helped by family can feel like a loss of independence or a reminder that roles have shifted, especially for someone who has always been the one looking after others. When help comes from someone outside the family, it often feels easier, more neutral and less emotionally loaded.

For many families, this is actually a relief. Support from someone else can ease tension, protect relationships and help a parent keep their confidence, while children can return to being sons or daughters rather than carers.

To explore support that helps protect independence and family relationships, speak with our Central Birmingham team on 0121 456 5559 or visit homeinstead.co.uk/edgbaston.

When families start to worry about eating habits, it is often not about appetite but about repetition.

The same meals, the same snacks, the same easy options day after day. This is not always a preference. It can be a sign that planning, shopping or cooking has started to feel overwhelming.

Having a bit of support can help bring variety back in a gentle way. Planning meals together, shopping locally and cooking simple food alongside someone can support both nutrition and confidence, while helping families feel reassured that their loved one is eating well.

Families often think the turning point will be a crisis or a big change, but more often it is something else.

It's the moment when a regular companionship visit starts to make everyday life feel easier again. Someone popping in for a chat, a walk, a bit of help with shopping or a shared cup of tea can lift mood, rebuild confidence and gently support routines.

For families we support, that consistency brings reassurance. You know your loved one is not spending long days alone and you can see the difference it makes to their wellbeing.

Companionship visits are often where support really begins to feel right.

If you are wondering whether companionship visits could make a difference, our team in Central Birmingham is happy to chat on 0121 456 5559 or via homeinstead.co.uk/edgbaston.

When families first get in touch, they often tell us the hardest part is how to start the conversation about care with a parent.

Not because their mum or dad needs lots of help, but because the word care does not feel like it fits.

Many people have spent their lives working, running households, supporting others and making decisions. Being offered care can feel like a step backwards.

What we often find works better is reframing the idea completely. Instead of “you need help”, it becomes “would it be nice if someone came round for an hour a week to help you sort the photos, get the garden back on track or tackle those boxes in the spare room”.

Very often, just one hour a week can be enough to keep routines going, build confidence and give families reassurance.

Support does not have to mean losing independence. Sometimes it simply means having someone alongside you to get things done.

If you are curious about how even a small amount of support could make a difference, our team in Central Birmingham is happy to talk on 0121 456 5559 or via homeinstead.co.uk/edgbaston
