Blood Testing Equipment Supply Disruption

A supplier to the NHS has advised them of a global shortage of some equipment used for taking blood tests. NHS England have therefore issued guidance to GPs that all non-urgent blood tests should be halted.

Anyone who needs a test for urgent health problems will still get one, but where your clinician recommends that it’s safe to do so, then you may be asked to come back for a test at a later date, or your appointment may be rescheduled.

Given the nature of the shortage, we cannot give an exact date for when the test will be rescheduled, but please be assured that if your condition or symptoms require it, then you will get a test, and we will be re-booking your test when supplies become more easily available.

If your condition or symptoms change or get worse, please contact the NHS as you would normally.

Throughout the pandemic we have strived to make the practice as safe as possible for all of our patients and staff. Despite the announcement that social distancing and the requirement to wear facemask will be removed from 19th July; they will remain in place at the practice. Patients will still be asked to wear face masks, follow social distancing and use hand sanitiser when attending the surgery and staff will continue to wear PPE.

This is supported by NHS England, who have confirmed that Public Health England’s infection prevention control guidelines and hospital visiting guidance are set to remain in place for all staff and visitors.

That means NHS visitor guidance will stay in place across all health services including hospitals, GP practices, dental practices, optometrists and pharmacies to ensure patients and staff are protected.

Thank you to all our patients for their understanding and for continuing to follow these guidelines.

Health and high quality care for all, now and for future generations

At the start of the pandemic, the Government mandated all practices to work in certain ways - for example telephone first etc - as numbers have changed through the year we have increased and decreased our precautions accordingly. We have seen patients face to face throughout and the numbers of consultations is higher than ever.

As COVID-19 Infection rates are going down, we are working on government and NHS England's guidelines and intend to offer more face to face appointments. We will keep patients updated via Facebook and our website as soon as our plans are finalised.

We appreciate your co-operation and patience. As you can appreciate, COVID-19 is still around and our priority is to provide safe and effective services to our patients without compromising the safety of our staff and patients.
