🧠 Are you your own harshest critic?

Do you give yourself a hard time when things get tough?

Being overly self-critical can quietly undermine our happiness and stop us from living as we’d really like.
Yet for many of us, this habit is so familiar that we barely notice it — even though it can lead to unhappiness, low mood, and a sense of hopelessness.

✨ The good news?
There are clear, practical methods to reduce — and eventually overcome — this habit.

Drawing on Buddhist psychology, this 4-week meditation course will introduce powerful techniques to help you develop a more accepting, balanced, and kinder relationship with yourself.

🧘‍♂️ On this 4-week course, Gen Kelsang Leksang will guide you through meditations and ways of thinking that help you quiet your inner critic and build genuine self-confidence.

🌱 You will learn how to: • Silence your inner critic
• Be more realistic and accepting of your mistakes
• Believe in your own potential
• Let go of guilt and be kinder to yourself — and others

📍 Course locations:
Birmingham, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, Wolverhampton & Stirchley

HERUKA DAY, 25th January 2026

Heruka is an enlightened Deity of Highest Yoga Ta**ra who is the manifestation of the compassion of all Buddhas ~ whose function is to lead all living beings to the supreme happiness of enlightenment.

The month of January is a special month in the Kadampa calendar during which we emphasize the practices of Heruka and Vajrayogini, the principal Highest Yoga Ta**ra Deities of modern Kadampa Buddhism.

These sublime practices were given to us by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche and were his heart practices.

There will be a special opportunity to receive Highest Yoga Ta**ra empowerments this year at the International Kadampa Summer festival.

For anyone interested in learning more about these practices, we have a course on Introduction to Ta**ra in March and also retreats and an empowerment which will all give you a good introduction.

Everybody welcome ✨️

"In reality, painful feelings that arise are not intolerable. They are only feelings, a few moments of bad weather in the mind, with no power to cause us any lasting harm.
There is no need to take them so seriously.

We are just one person among countless living beings, and a few moments of unpleasant feeling arising in the mind of just one person is no great catastrophe." ~ Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche 💞

Who We Are & Our Tradition

Kadampa Meditation Centre Birmingham is a member of the New Kadampa Tradition-International Kadampa Buddhist Union, a Buddhist tradition with no political affiliations that follows the pure Mahayana Buddhist teachings of Atisha (AD 982 – 1054) and Je Tsongkhapa (AD 1357 – 1419), as presented for contemporary society by modern-day Buddhist master, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.

The New Kadampa Tradition (NKT) is an international association of Mahayana Buddhist study and meditation centres founded by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso to offer the practical wisdom of Kadampa Buddhism to the people of the modern world. The NKT follows the pure tradition of Mahayana Buddhism handed down in an unbroken lineage from Buddha Shakyamuni through the ancient Kadampa teachers Atisha and Je Tsongkhapa and introduced into the West by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. Rapidly growing, our Kadampa community is an international family, offering support, inspiration and encouragement for this joyful and profound spiritual path at centres around the world.
