8 months since I posted on fb and insta, 8 months since I removed the apps from my phone (which I would highly recommend to everyone!). So what’s been happening, had a few articles published in the British Association of Sport Medicine, Institute of Chiropodist and Podiatrists, Royal College of Podiatrists and have been very busy with a local campaign to highlight the effects of nitrous oxide abuse on the lower limb with a Birmingham Mail article and several speaking events.

The PhD is progressing very well which is something I’m enjoying with an immense passion in a subject that is pushing me 😊.

We have had skin surgery patients from around the world, South Africa, Dubai and Kuwait, Europe and within the UK which is something me and my team enjoy!

I have had the pleasure and honour to be part of the teaching team for a diabetic foot and ankle course in Pakistan with awesome colleagues like Emily Haworth Aisha Wajahat Tausif Muhammad zaman. We are working very hard to set up a faculty within the University to set up the first undergraduate podiatric medicine BSc and MSc in Pakistan 🇵🇰.

Lead Sports Podiatrist at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022. This is a great honour for me as I follow in the footsteps of one of my mentors and inspiration Professor Nat Padhiar who was the podiatric clinical lead at the London Olympics 2012.

Over the last 12 months I have been working with the Commonwealth Games medical team organizers and our multi disciplinary team colleagues with planning the role and scope of the sports podiatrists at the games, recruitment of podiatrists, logistics as well as providing extensive hands-on musculoskeletal sport medicine training to many of the younger podiatrists who will be volunteering at the games, which is something I have really enjoyed.

It has been exciting to see how podiatric sports medicine is evolving since I first qualified as a podiatrist in 1995, podiatric sports medicine entails detailed assessment, examination and management of sports injuries of the lower limb – especially the foot, ankle and lower leg. With the use MRi, Ultrasound and Blood tests to assist in supporting a clinical diagnosis.

In my clinical practice, 90% of what I do is treating professional and amateur athletes however volunteering my time to treat athletes is something which I have enjoyed doing for many years. As the head of sports medicine for the Birmingham Youth Sports Academy that has over 300 young male and female footballers that regularly attend weekly sessions, treating young footballers with injuries every week is something I find immensely rewarding.

Sports podiatrists perform image-guided injections, ultrasound scanning, provide orthotics, shockwave and laser treatment while always considering a multidisciplinary approach to managing patients with evidence-based rehabilitation prescription.

I sincerely believe that podiatric sports medicine is evolving into a speciality that many young podiatrists will wish to excel at with Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) offering established postgraduate qualifications (certificates, diplomas and master’s degrees) in podiatric sports medicine (as a former student I can personally vouch for QMUL excellence), the future is bright for a profession I genuinely love.

I am honored to have been awarded a consultant fellowship in podiatric medicine by the institute of chiropodists and podiatrists, the 27 years of hard work within a profession I still genuinely love has been acknowledged which I am grateful for.

My favorite injection! Spent the morning injecting patients with various foot conditions including plantar fasciosis (heel pain), Morton’s neuroma (pain in the ball of the foot), tibilas posterior pain (pain inside of the ankle) and peroneal brevis tendon pain (pain along the outside of the foot). I prefer traumeel to steroid injections, traumeel is effective and much safer then a steroid injection with little to no side effects. Traumeel is a fixed combination of diluted plant and mineral extracts. It has been available over the counter in Germany for over 60 years and in Austria for over 40 years, and is currently available in approximately 50 countries, including the USA.

Class 4 Remy Laser treatment for a stubborn Verruca on this wonderful sweet 12 year old patient, the cameraman was her father who’s commentary is rather amusing!

Class 4 Remy Laser is a valid option for a child with a Verruca, as you will see from this video the treatment is not very painful at all and can be highly effective.
