Everyone's experience is different, but during the early stages of dementia, some people find they're able to remain independent at home in the same way they did before the diagnosis.

Unfortunately, this becomes more difficult as the disease progresses. If you've noticed that a loved one has started to struggle, perhaps they're forgetting to take their medications or finding day to day tasks increasingly challenging, we can help.

Today we remember Mavis, who sadly passed away on 2nd June at the grand old age of 97.

She was one of our first clients when we started Adelfi Care just over 4 years ago, and quickly became part of the family. Today we say a final farewell and reflect on the many fond memories we share.

With the help of Whzan's Blue Box technology, we record and monitor vital health metrics which allows us to identify potential health issues.

We do this by tracking key health indicators including blood pressure, oxygen saturation levels and temperature to establish a baseline for each client. This enables us to notice potential health concerns earlier on and arrange appropriate medical support before symptoms worsen.

With temperatures rising above 25°C, it’s important to check how your medication is stored. Many medicines can become less effective or even harmful if they get too hot. 💊

Here’s what you need to do:

✅ Check the label – most medicines should be stored below 25°C
✅ Avoid direct sunlight – don’t leave medicines near windows, radiators, or in cars
✅ Use the fridge if needed – in very hot weather, storing medication in the fridge (2–8°C) is sometimes safest, but don’t freeze them
✅ Use cool bags – if you’re travelling, use an insulated pouch to protect your medicines
✅ Look out for changes – if tablets are sticky, capsules are soft, or creams have separated, speak to your pharmacist

⚠️ You should also be aware that some medications like insulin, inhalers, thyroxine, antibiotics, and hormone treatments are especially sensitive to heat.

If you’re unsure, please ask your pharmacist or healthcare provider for advice.
