π What is cramp?
π£ A sudden and involuntary tightening (spasm) of a muscle/muscles that causes pain and makes it hard to continue moving that muscle. Muscle cramps occur mainly in the leg and foot muscles but any muscle can be affected. Cramp can last a few seconds or several minutes depending on the severity.
π What should I do if I get cramp?
πͺ Gently stretch the muscle and massage the area to encourage it to relax. Move around to get your muscles working.
π΄ You can get cramp when you are asleep (nocturnal cramp).
π What causes cramp?
π It could be too much high intensity exercise, holding a position for too long, stress, losing body fluids through sweat, involuntary nerve discharges, side effects from some illnesses and medications, deficiencies in potassium, calcium or magnesiumβ¦
π How can I prevent cramp?
π¦ Stretch well and stay hydrated. Get a massage to help your muscles stay in tip top condition.
π©ββοΈ Seek medical advice if you have severe discomfort when cramping, you cramp often, you have leg swelling or redness or if you are concerned.
