If the holidays leave you feeling cornered or controlled in your relationship, it’s important to recognise that this is a valid experience - and you deserve to feel heard and respected.

This time of year can amplify relationship dynamics, making it easier for partners to feel controlled or critiqued - two very different experiences that impact how we connect.

Let’s break down the differences between the two, and what healthy communication actually looks like.

The traffic light system is a simple, intuitive way to assess where you are on the spectrum of burnout.

Think of your emotional and physical energy levels like a traffic light, where green means you’re functioning well, amber signals caution and red indicates an urgent need for intervention.

For many, the very idea of being “selfish” feels wrong. However, a bit of what we might call “selective selfishness” – a conscious decision to meet your own needs – is vital.

Learning to say “no” doesn’t mean you’re neglecting others; it’s about making space to recharge so that you can show up in a meaningful, sustainable way.

This festive season, dare to set boundaries and redefine “giving” as something that includes giving back to yourself.

Stress, anxiety and overwhelm don’t just stay in your head - they show up in your body too.

Ever feel constantly drained, tense or like you’re running on empty? That’s your body and mind asking for balance.

True healing happens when you look at the full picture of how your thoughts, emotions and physical health are all connected. When you start working with all parts of yourself, that’s when real change happens.

If this sounds familiar, maybe it’s time to start listening to what your body is telling you.

We all know it’s cool to be kind, but did you also know that in return for your kindness you body will thank you with reduced levels of stress, and a boost in emotional wellbeing?

Think of kindness as a seesaw for stress; when the kindness goes up, the stress levels come down - making being kind a no brainer - right?! 🩷

Workplace anxiety is more common than you might think - but it can be managed.

If work stress is impacting your focus, energy or overall well-being, there are small, effective steps you can take to feel more grounded and in control.

Combining techniques like CBT therapy, alongside setting boundaries, planning your day, taking short breaks and talking to someone you trust within the workplace is essential.

Prioritising your mental health at work is not only helpful, it’s essential to thrive.

Calling All UK-Based Mums in Natural or Responsive Parenting!

Are you a mum practicing natural or responsive parenting? I’m inviting you to participate in a survey to help explore the unique experiences within this often-underrepresented community.

This research aims to understand the challenges and benefits of these parenting approaches in a society where they can feel marginalised.

Your insights could make a real difference.

For those who have already shared their experiences, thank you for your valuable input!

Active listening is key to keeping a marriage strong.
It’s not about agreeing on everything; it’s about validating each other’s experience.

When your partner feels seen and understood, they feel loved. Sometimes, simply listening can be the most powerful act of love.

The IMAGO technique is a powerful tool used in couples therapy. It helps partners communicate in a way that fosters understanding and connection, creating a safe space for both to feel truly heard and valued.

Life changes in the most incredible ways with a new baby but balancing your needs, your relationship, and your new role as a parent can be challenging. This journey often means redefining roles, rediscovering connections and finding harmony amidst new responsibilities.

I wanted to give you a gentle reminder that each part - you, your partner and your baby - brings essential elements to your growing family.

Therapy can be an incredible support in navigating this balance, helping you maintain your individual needs, strengthen your partnership and build a family foundation that thrives on shared joy and understanding. Whether you’re preparing, adjusting or reflecting.

It’s be a while, so a little reintroduction and what I love to do.

I’m Jerrilee Clayton, a senior accredited Psychotherapist and Counsellor. I specialise in anxiety related issues, couples therapy and expectant parents, also working with media personalities and professional athletes.

People ask me all the time “What is Psychotherapy?” often assuming that you need to be unwell to be seeking it - you don’t!

Psychotherapy explores your emotions, thoughts, beliefs and behaviours, helping you to gain a new perspective and promote changes.

Curious? Therapy is not as scary as you may think.
