Want to connect to your breath and calm your mind?
Start by understanding the asanas- how the shapes of the body change the breath. This one deeply opens the chest the diaphragm, lungs, and heart: the spaces where breath and energy live.

Try this supported Ustrasana with a chair supporting the dorsal spine.
It’s a powerful way to open the body, awaken prana, release tension, and restore energy.

This pose is incredibly versatile — it can be practiced dynamically or restoratively, depending on your props, approach, and intention. You can also stay in it for longer holds to deepen the effect.

Yoga and the Chakras workshop 7/6/25

Chakras are often talked about in modern yoga, but their roots go way back. While Patanjali doesn’t name chakras directly, he describes Kriya Yoga as the path of inner purification through discipline (tapas), self-study (svadhyaya), and surrender (Ishvara pranidhana). This approach prepares us for deeper awakening by clearing obstacles within.

Later texts like the Hatha Yoga Pradipika give us a clearer map of the chakras and the granthis (knots) that block energy from rising. Each chakra connects to different parts of our physical and emotional experience, and through consistent practice—asana (poses), pranayama (breath), bandhas (body seals), and Kriya Yoga principles—we can begin to clear those blocks and open to greater awareness.

I’ll be sharing insights from this rich system, along with simple, practical tools you can use in your own practice, at my workshop on:

Saturday 7th June, 9am–12:30pm.
Little Hadham Village Hall SG11 2BP

We’ll be scratching the surface of a vast subject, but you’ll leave with knowledge, practices, and handouts to support your yoga journey.

To book, just drop me a DM. I’d love to see you there.

Join me for my second workshop in the Conscious Chakra Practice series, where we journey through the upper chakras — from the heart (Anahata) to the crown (Sahasrara). These energy centers are associated with love, truth, intuition, and higher states of consciousness, including unity, divine connection, and spiritual awakening.

Through asana, pranayama (breathwork), and mantra, we’ll explore how the subtle energies can support a deeper, more curious yoga practice.

This workshop is open to all — you don’t need to have attended Part One. Whether you’re looking to deepen your yoga practice or curious about the chakra system, and breathwork, this is an opportunity to explore yoga beyond the physical.

Inversions are the backbone of an Iyengar Yoga practice for many reasons.. they cultivate mental and emotional resilience, and have deep therapeutic effects eg help anxiety, depression, lift moods, change perspective, help fatigue, headaches, respiratory issues, sharpen our minds .. the list goes on!

They play a crucial role in preparing the mind and body for meditation, pranayama, and deeper yogic practices which become the core practice as we travel deeper into yoga.

Sarvangasana (shoulderstand) is the mother or queen pose - it calms, cools and nourishes.

Sirsasana is the father or King pose - it builds strength and mental clarity, focus and courage.

Adho Mukha Vrksasana - handstand brings vitality, confidence, is uplifting and reduces stress.

I’m really excited to teach this transformative workshop… we’ll focus on balancing the first three chakras - which form the foundation of our being, linked to feeling grounded, creativity, and personal power. Through asana, pranayama (breathwork), and mantra, we’ll explore how these chakras influence our physical and energetic balance.

This workshop is an opportunity to connect with the subtle energy body and develop the sensitivity to cultivate balance and stability in both your practice and daily life. To book tickets, visit the link in bio or contact us via the website

Part Two will follow soon and will continue our journey through the chakras, focusing on the Heart to the Crown.

In today’s Zoom class, we used belts around the hips to stabilise the SI joint, supporting the lower back and hips. We also placed feet on angled bricks to guide the femur head into the hip socket, a technique we use in yoga therapy for individuals who have had hip replacements. These practices promote healthy hip movement, support weakened areas, reduce compression, and create symmetry in poses to build even strength

✨ Restorative Asana + Pranayama Workshop ✨
Saturday, 18th January 2024
10am - 12.30pm
Emmaus Centre, Bishop’s Stortford

Pranayama is the ancient practice of breath control that helps us find calm and clarity. Rooted in the traditional teachings of Patanjali Yoga, it offers a way to bring balance to the body, mind, and breath.

In this workshop, we’ll explore how restorative yoga postures prepare the mind and open the body for a gentle, supported pranayama practice. Together, they create a space for deep rest and renewal.

This workshop is open to all abilities. Hope you can join!

Another Savasana variation! This one is part of my therapy journey as I recover from an op.

It really is as serene as it looks. The weights help to ground the body so it can let go quickly.

More on yoga therapy soon.

Savasana - co**se pose and all of the variations that can be explored in an Iyengar yoga practice.

Day by day the little changes we make, the little goals we set, the moments we set aside to meditate and to practice etc add up!

We may not see the results immediately but the benefits of a practice build up over time.

Looking back, I don’t think I could have made it through many challenging chapters of my life without my practice—which extends well beyond just physical asana

How has your practice impacted you? I’d love to hear in the comments! Maybe it’s a feeling, a shift in mindset, or a newfound resilience?
