A small practice with a mighty heart and tireless drive for meeting need. Proudly needs-led since 2016. The Orchid Practice was founded by two Specialist Speech and Language Therapists with a vision for providing support to children with special educational needs or specific speech and language difficulties and their families. The inspiration for our name came from our observations that like our clients, orchids are individual, rare, special, intriguing and above all, orchids triumph against adversity. Given the right environment and the right support, orchids will flourish. At The Orchid Practice we are passionate about creating interventions which will enable our clients to realize their full potential. Our practice has quickly developed to incorporate specialized services for children with autistic spectrum disorders and young adults with speech and language difficulties. We have also developed links with a Relaxation Therapist who is able to provide support for children and families particularly aimed at reducing stress and anxiety to enable communication development. The Orchid Practice currently serves, Hertfordshire, Essex and Cambridgeshire. We are looking to expand our practice to include support for adults with speech, language and communication needs in the future.

Amy Drew supported National Careers Week by doing a talk at a local secondary school. Thank you hertsandessexhighschool for having us.

HERTS AND ESSEX STUDENT FEEDBACK: careers talk February 2025

I have always been passionate about healthcare and Amy Drew's talk about Speech Therapy further confirmed this. Amy's description of her profession as one that is "smoothing people's paths" really stuck with me. I was also struck by her passion when giving personal accounts of patients' routes to recovery and how the ultimate goal of them not needing further intervention, was achieved. I had the absolute privilege of listening to Amy Drew about her career and business in Speech and Language Therapy, as a student who is already interested in language and speech problems and issues, I was intrigued by the information we experienced. It started with watching a video of a person in a MRI beatboxing, this was incredible and we were asked questions about the anatomy of the mouth and to point out certain parts. We were then taken through the array of careers that are included in Speech and Language Therapy such as head and throat cancer and dysphasia. All this has helped me greatly understand and look forward to a potential career in Speech and Language Therapy. Thank you so much, Amy!

Our Story

The Orchid Practice was founded by two Specialist Speech and Language Therapists with a vision for providing support to children with special educational needs or specific speech and language difficulties and their families. The inspiration for our name came from our observations that like our clients, orchids are individual, rare, special, intriguing and above all, orchids triumph against adversity. Given the right environment and the right support, orchids will flourish. At The Orchid Practice we are passionate about creating interventions which will enable our clients to realize their full potential.

Our practice has quickly developed to incorporate specialized services for children with autistic spectrum disorders and young adults with speech and language difficulties. The Orchid Practice currently serves, Hertfordshire, Essex and Bedfordshire. We have collaborative working with an Art Therapist and an Educational Psychologist. We are looking to expand our practice to include occupational therapy links in the future.

We have developed our own clinical record management system called MyTherapyTracker which helps to support our practice so we can work in greater collaboration and provide high quality therapy services.
