What if your mare isn’t being “mareish” or your pony isn’t just being a naughty, disrespectful little so and so and they are actually trying to tell you something?

We often brush over behaviours as our horses aren’t lame so they can’t possible be in pain but these subtle cues that they are giving us could be speaking volumes!

If you think your horse is trying to tell you something , why not book an appointment today to make sure.

Having a dog that's living with arthritis can be very challenging at times and it can be a mind field as to what to do for the best for them. Here’s 3 simple things that you can do straight away to help them live a more comfortable life.

If you’d like more details on how you can help your dog live a more comfortable life and still be able to enjoy doing their favourite things, (within reason, they wont be chasing that tennis ball anymore from the ball launcher!! they are banned!), DM me the word “ARTHRITIS” to discuss what I can do to help!

Physiotherapy Isn’t Just for Injuries – It Can Help Your Pets Wounds Heal Too!

When we think of animal physio, we often picture dogs recovering from surgery or older pets getting help with arthritis or joint issues. But did you know that veterinary physiotherapists can also play a vital role in wound care?

Whether your pet has had surgery, a pressure sore, a bite wound, or a chronic skin issue, physio can support their healing.

Here’s how physios can help with wound care in pets:

🔹 Wound Monitoring & Healing Support
Animal physios are trained to monitor wound healing and identify any issues like delayed recovery, swelling, or excess pressure on the area.

🔹 Positioning & Offloading
If your pet has a pressure wound or surgical site, I can help you find ways to relieve pressure and promote better healing — especially important for pets who are less mobile.

🔹 Reducing Swelling & Improving Circulation
Techniques like gentle massage, controlled movement, or even hydrotherapy can improve blood flow and lymphatic drainage, supporting tissue repair.

🔹 Pain Management
Your pet may be in more discomfort than they’re letting on. Physios can use safe, non-invasive tools to ease pain and make them more comfortable during recovery.

🔹 Gentle Exercise for Recovery
Movement is key, even during wound healing. Tailored, low-impact exercise helps maintain strength, boosts circulation, and supports the immune response.

✅ So if your pet has a wound that’s taking time to heal, or you just want to make sure their recovery is as smooth as possible, don’t overlook the role of physiotherapy. It's not just for bones and muscles — it's for whole-body healing.

Comment below if you would like to discuss how I can.

On Saturday, I got to meet the lovely Bear 🐻.

It was the first time he'd had physio, so we took it nice and slow and took the session at his pace.

We had a few moments of, "No, not today. Thank you, Vicki!" but with lots of reassurance and time for him to process what I was asking of him, he soon settled into the session and really enjoyed himself.

Bear isn't a fan of having his legs picked up, especially for the farrier, so hopefully, with a few more sessions, he will become desensitised to it. You can see from the pictures that by the end, he was more than happy to stretch out those legs.

🧲 Balance Starts at the Hoof! 🐎

Did you know that imbalanced hooves can put serious stress on your horse’s tendons and ligaments?

When a hoof isn’t properly balanced, it changes how weight is distributed through the leg.

Over time, this can lead to:
🔹 Tendon and ligament strain
🔹 Microtears and inflammation
🔹 Compensatory stress in joints
🔹 Increased risk of lameness

This isn’t just about the shape of the hoof — it’s about protecting your horse’s long-term health and performance. Regular farrier care and attention to hoof balance help reduce the risk of injury and keep your horse moving freely and comfortably.
🐴💪

✔️ Balanced hooves = protected limbs.

As part of all my sessions I make sure that I take a look at the horse's hooves so that I can eliminate the balance of the hoof being something that's contributing to the horse's current issues.
If I have any concerns I will refer your horse back to your farrier to get their expert opinion and help in making sure that the hooves are balanced.

Working together as a team is always essential to get the best possible results.

🦶🐴 Balanced Hoof, Sound Horse 🐴🦶

A well-balanced hoof is more than just a pretty foot — it's the foundation of your horse’s entire leg structure. 🐎

When the hoof is properly trimmed and balanced:
✅ Weight is evenly distributed
✅ Joints, tendons, and ligaments experience less strain
✅ The risk of injury is reduced
✅ Movement becomes smoother and more efficient

Think of it like your own shoes — if one sole is thicker than the other, your knees, hips, and back will feel it. It’s no different for horses!

Regular farrier visits and attention to hoof balance can make a huge difference in your horse's comfort, performance, and long-term soundness. 💪🦵💚

As our dogs are spending more time inside at the moment to keep them out of the heat, I thought I’d share with you some of the things I’ve been doing with Rafa to keep him entertained.

1. Scent work games - take the dog out of the room and hide treats or their favourite toys around the room and then let them back in to find them.

2. Learn a new trick - this is a great way to bond with your dog and keep their mind active at the same time.

3. Puzzle games - these are interactive games the dispense treats or require problem solving skills to gain access to the treats.

4. Snuffle mats - mats that have hiding places for treats, encouraging your dog to sniff them out before enjoying eating them. I often put Rafa’s kibble in his snuffle mat and it’s a great way of making dinner time last a bit longer 😂.

5. Obstacle course - create a simple course with pillows, cushions, blankets and other household items for your dog to navigate.

Why not share some pictures and videos of the things you do to keep your dogs entertained in the comments to inspire others.

Mickey and Saffy have been enjoying a bit of apple bobbing this evening.

This is a great form of enrichment for ponies and also a really good way of making sure that they are keeping hydrated in this hot weather.

It looks like it’s going to be a hot one this week and next, so please make sure that you keep your animals safe.

Remember a dog wont die from missing a walk but they could if they are walked or over exercised when it’s too hot outside 🥵

If your dog does experience heat stroke here’s what you need to do:

🐾 Cool immediately using cool water, never leave a soaked towel on top of the dog as this insulates heat.

🐶 Be careful not to overcool and drop patient into Hypothermia.

🚑 Keep as calm as possible when travelling to the vets as stress may worsen temperature, minimal handling is best.

🥵 DO NOT be tempted to cuddle them to comfort them on the way to the vets. You will be making them hotter.

🐾 If they are small enough, put them in something like a wash basket to carry them to and from the car.

If you are out on a walk on your own with your dog and you don’t have water with you to cool them down and they have collapsed, DO NOT leave them as they will be scared! Call someone immediately for help and get them to come to you with water, keeping the dog in the shade while you wait and get them to the vet ASAP.

I've added a picture of the signs of heat stroke in the comments so you know what to look out for.

A lame horse, is a lame horse! No matter what level they are competing at.

Why is it that we turn a blind eye to things at the top level, but hang people out to dry at grassroots level?

A lame horse, is a lame horse, no matter the level they are competing at.

Welfare should never be about status.

It’s time that we hold everyone to the same standard, from local riding schools to international arenas.

The horse doesn’t know what level it’s competing at, it only knows how it feels.

Double tap, if you agree ❤️
