Thanks for all your support…. 4 and a half years ago I started this with an idea… thoroughly enjoyed every minute… I’m going to keep the page open… but there won’t be any new content…

Time to call it a day and start another chapter in my life…

See you on the road somewhere…

It’s Troon Mod Weekender… so seems appropriate timing…

Patient ready to leave the clinic… headlight adjuster bracket arrived… what a difference the correct quality part makes… delivered quickly by Discodezscooters…
Changed out that massively suppressed plug cap for an unsuppressed cap… for a bigger stronger spark…
Been out for a wee spin… a joy in the afternoon sunshine ☀️

Bit more done… this old girl is fighting me all the way…
Leakdown test passed…then started building her up to get her started.. timing marks set after establishing TDC
Go to clean up the flywheel cowling and cylinder cowling from all the crud.. cheap rattle can Halfords paint comes off in my parts cleaner… so repaint the cowlings…
Carb on.. throttle cable strangely loose… popped in the headset 🤦🏻
So mirrors and flyscreen off… into the headset… find the speedo cable totally disconnected.. fix the throttle cable… speedo cable fitted… headset back together… leaving the screen and mirrors off until I’m sure..
exhaust back on using loctite copper silicone slip joint sealer…
Go to turn on the fuel… wont turn due to carb fouling the fuel rod… oh joy.. so fuel rod extender needed to give clearance… then I noticed the fuel tap leaking too.. so new tap to go on too…

Will work round these obstacles in the morning to get her fired up… then wait for the parts from Torbay Lambretta…

A bit more done with this old girl…

If you remember the reed block wasn’t sitting flush with the manifold… so after some fettling it sat all the way home. The manifold was an appalling match to the barrel so sorted that out…

The stand was really annoying me when trying to work on the scooter so decided to sort that out… fixed the bulges on the crossmember that the bolts had made trying to pull through… then refitted the stand with new J brackets and fitted the missing strengthening plates… stand now sitting perfectly
The new iwis chain arrived… so pulled in the crank after fitting new Viton seals… then rebuilt the clutch and sprockets assembly … and fitted a new pull down tensioner
Moving onto the top end… the squish when stripping I estimated to be around 2.5mm and combined with the huge piston ring gaps…
So decided to do a dry build to set the squish first… 1.2mm was as good as I was going to get… so happy with that… and should transform this scooter…
Onto the reed block/manifold…. Nobody makes the gaskets for this LTH manifold so made one myself… fitted new BGM fl**ge rubber too…
Top end then fully rebuilt… after clearing the piston ring slots… the bottom ring slot on the piston was so badly gummed up the ring wouldn’t fit… but top end eventually built up properly and cylinder head nuts fully torqued up

Lastly mag housing rebuilt with new Viton seals and new nu2205 bearing

First look at this old girl…

The front end (forks etc had been built by a bike mechanic) not very well… front mudguard was flapping about… no brakes… Speedo cable apparently missing…

So strip speedo out and find what remains of Speedo cable… strip the brake cable out to find the inner frayed to the degree that it won’t slide inside the outer… so new front brake cable fitted… then find the cable clamp is bodged up, and the brake actuator arm is bent… do straighten that and fit a new clamp…

New Speedo cable fitted down through the forks and checked its spinning with front wheel… then refit Speedo…

The front mudguard that’d been fitted was flapping about… so missing side bolt hole drilled and bolt fitted to secure it to forks.

The mudguard had holes for a crest… so fitted one that matched the profile of the mudguard (I know it’s not a 150 super mudguard)

Go to start up the scooter… didn’t want to start… check for spark… only to find the completely wrong plug fitted… new proper plug fitted and she started first kick…

Repaired a damaged mirror…

Just got to fit a missing headlamp adjuster… was held in place by wedged card… and we should be ready for a test ride

Moving along with this old girl… we left her off needing a leakdown test…

So exhaust cowlings etc stripped off… immediately spot a cylinder head leak… but exhaust has been blowing badly too… one of the exhaust nuts had bottomed out on the stud thread before being able to fully tighten the stub manifold against the gasket.. causing the leak..

Leakdown test failed… blowing from the inlet manifold at the reed valve gasket… massive leak…

With everything I’d found I decided to strip her down to give a through check over…

Ring gap was massive… almost as if the wrong rings had been fitted… there didn’t look to be enough wear on the rings to account for the gap..

Chaincase off to get crank out to change oil seals… chain was extremely slack… cheap room chain used… not at all appropriate for the 225 reed valved top end… new chain required

Maghousing off… find bearing sleeve loose on the crank… can remove it from the crank with zero effort… so fit new bearing sleeve and will fit new bearing outer half to the mag housing

Crank out… the seals used were rolf standard rubber items.. need to be replaced with vitton seals

Clutch out to check… the locking tab washer on the tab nut had not been activated.. nut could have worked itself loose…

So.. more work than I thought to sort out this old girl…

Great weekend riding with Lambretta Club of Scotland … what I’m looking forward to doing more of…

Billed as Whisky Trail… Oban to Campbeltown… but was far more than that

The old girl took me across the Atlantic.. visited two islands… took 2 ferries… covered a decent amount of miles..

What scootering is all about… two wheeled fun with good mates…

This was the last scooter on my official waiting list… before I kick back and take it easy in retirement

First look at this old girl… owner was out riding and she just cut out and wouldn’t restart

First thing to check was plug… looked wet.., but probably through trying to start without success… had a spark….

Next look at compression… Rapido 225 reed valved… so should have a decent amount of compression… feels pretty low…

Look at carburation… carb off… not a carb you see very often on a lammy… Mikuni TMX30

Fuel has a plethora of fine particles… a look in at the reed valve shows a wee stone stuck in the reed petal… not good… has anything got through etc…

Going to need to leakdown test this engine…

But that will have to wait till after Oban to Campbeltown run this weekend
