This Saturday I’m running a 6 hour simulation as part of the build towards my 150 miles in 24 hours challenge

📍 Central Park, Dargavel Village (700m loop)
⏰ 8am–2pm

This is one of the key sessions of the block — not just time on feet, but:
• locking into first 1/4 race pace
• practising fuelling (80g carbs per hour)
• learning how to manage effort over time

I’ll be aiming to hold a pace of 8:45–9:15 per mile to simulate the first 6 hours of race day.

If you want to come along:
👉 jump in for a few loops
👉 ask questions about the challenge or ultra training
👉 or just see what this kind of preparation looks like up close

You don’t need to stay for 6 hours — just come down and be part of it.

I’ll be out there regardless of the weather (unless it’s lightning… then I’ll call it 😅)

I hold my coached athletes accountable, now I’m holding myself accountable and putting this out there to be seen.

A week on Saturday, people are free to come join me, ask questions, get an insight to a wee bit of ultra marathon training. It’s in the small loop of Central Park in Dargavel.

As part of my preparation for a 150 mile in 24 hours challenge this July, I’ll be completing a 6-hour training run around the 700m loop in Central Park, Dargavel Village.

I’ll be starting at 8am on Saturday 11th April.

If anyone fancies coming along to run a few loops, see what ultra training looks like, or ask questions about endurance running and how these events are prepared for, you’re very welcome to join for as long or as short as you like.
It’s all about showing the process behind the challenge.

Congratulations to coached athlete Mark Webster on an outstanding performance at Sheffield Half marathon today, taking a
Phenomenal 9 mins off his previous best over the distance. I knew from first discussions Mark had potential, A bit of structure to his training and a lot of hard work and effort on his part had seen him absolutely crush the race today. Back to back long runs this weekend.

Saturday -3hours - 21.25 miles
Sunday- 2 hours - 13.65 miles

All fuelled at 70g of carbs per hour using and sports jellies.

This is not about chasing mileage.
It’s about building what actually matters for a 150 mile run in 24 hours.

Running long when fresh is one thing, but running long when there is already fatigue in the legs is different.
That’s where you learn.

•How to hold effort when the legs are tired
•How to manage pace without drifting too much
•How to fuel consistently across multiple days

Because in a 24 hour race you don’t reset….
You keep going.

This is how you prepare for that.

Not to chase miles…
but to build what actually matters for a 150 miles in 24 hours challenge.
Running long when fresh is one thing.
Running long when there’s already fatigue in the legs —
that’s where the adaptation happens.
This weekend is about:
• building fatigue resistance
• learning how to manage effort on tired legs
• dialling in fuelling over multiple days
Because in a 24-hour race, you don’t get to reset.
You keep going.

Congratulations to coached athlete Alan McGinlay on yet another PB, this time in the Half marathon at Carlisle.
Alan is a fine example of head down, do the work and reap the rewards. Alan has knocked off two mins from his previous Half marathon best and is a confidence inspiring run heading into his training for his first marathon in Berlin at the end of September. Hope the service station Big Mac went down well mate, enjoy the Chinese later and rest up, another superb training block and fantastic race performance 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
