Last Monday, the third Monday of the New Year, is recognised as Blue Monday.

This year, we turned Blue Monday into Brew Monday, and staff enjoyed a healthy mood boosting breakfast, courtesy of the Catering and Working Well Teams. We kindly asked for a donation of 50p per breakfast as a contribution towards ‘The Samaritans Charity’. Staff were invited to complete quizzes, and enjoyed a well-earned brew.

The OT staff also opened up the café in the afternoon in support of Brew Monday. The focus of the Brew Monday café was to engage Patients in conversations about mental health and to lift everyone's spirits on Blue Monday.

Staff provided patients and staff with warm drinks and biscuits. Patients who chose to sit in the café were given word searches and an anagram worksheet with prizes available for the most answers. All who attended appeared to enjoy the event. There was lots of laughter and singing along to the radio, as well as some competition to complete the word searches first!

We were sad to say goodbye to our Associate Specialist, Dr Scot Lindsay, at the end of last week. He has been a valued member of the medical team and the MDT on Hawthorn for the past 2 years (as well as a regular and vocal member of the Kemplefit sessions!) We wish him all the best in his new venture.

The OT Team celebrated OT week (4th November-8th November) at Kemple View. The team hosted an event for patients and staff and the event consisted of 6 stations, relating to the standardised assessment called ‘MOHOST’.

The stations explored Motivation, Pattern of Occupation, Process Skills, Communication skills, Motor skills and Environment. Each station had activities for people to engage in helping them to understand the different skills that are used.

The OT Team also held a patient’s job fair hosted in the onsite café to promote voluntary and real work opportunities on and off site. Information was provided regarding job adverts and support to complete applications was provided.

Various Merchandise was on offer with hot drinks and cake being served for those who attended.

Yesterday at Kemple View, we proudly celebrated our Annual Long Service Awards, honouring 28 dedicated team members for their milestones of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 years of service - an incredible combined total of 320 years!

We were pleased to have Steve Baker, MD for the Northern Region, join us to surprise our Hospital Director, Mags Gallagher, with her 30-year service award, along with flowers and champagne. Congratulations also to Karen and Diane from our Admin Department for 25 years of service, and to Alison from Therapies and Andy from Nursing for their 20 years of commitment.

All awardees received a certificate and a gift, and everyone enjoyed a wonderful buffet and drinks. Congratulations to all our award recipients, we wholeheartedly thank you to all for your hard work, motivation, dedication, and many years of service.

Special thanks to the Catering Department for the delicious buffet and to the Working Well Team for organising such a great event!

Yesterday on 14 August, our fabulous Working Well team hosted a complimentary Continental Breakfast Morning for night staff from the previous night and day staff!

The lovely spread included:

Smoked Salmon
Fresh Fruit
Yogurt
Granola
Cooked meats
Cheeses
Variety of fresh breads and pastries

This was enjoyed by all who attended!

Having fun in the sun.

Last Thursday, Elmhurst ward took an impromptu opportunity whilst the weather was kind to us, by having a garden party.

Service users and staff enjoyed ice cream, snacks and games!

Yesterday, Hawthorn ward at Kemple View have had their physical health awareness day.

This aimed to engage patients in interactive sessions, discussions, prizes, healthy snacks and promotion of physical exercise and health.

Seven patients engaged in some elements of the day which was really positive. There was also talks from a previous service user and a recorded interview from a professional boxer at Jennings gym.

‘NATIONAL FISH AND CHIP DAY WILL CO-INCIDE THIS YEAR WITH THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE D-DAY LANDINGS, THE LARGEST NAVAL, LAND AND AIR OPERATION IN HISTORY

THURSDAY 06 JUNE 2024

At Kemple View at lunchtime we enjoyed a traditional fish and chip lunch of fish, scampi, cheese and onion pasties, mushy peas, chips, gravy and curry sauce.

Everyone was invited to take part in a D-Day Quiz. Prizes consisted of X 2 ‘Country Fried’ fish and chip vouchers, and a’ Victory in Europe Experience’ pack (to include rare documents, memorabilia and an audio CD of veterans first hand accounts). Complimentary cakes were also served during the afternoon.

We would like to say a special thank you to Mr Miller, a former colleague, who kindly donated decorations, wrote the quiz and donated an amazing prize.

Thanks also to our Catering team for preparing a fantastic Fish and Chip lunch, enjoyed by all staff and service users, and thanks to the Working Well team for decorating the dining room with flags and banners, serving lunches and for organising the days events.
