Women facing homelessness, exploitation and substance misuse have been supported with hot food, safety equipment and health advice through Spark and partners’ women’s outreach programme, which runs night‑time support sessions in the Dixon Street area of Blackburn.

One woman supported through the outreach said simply: “This saves my life.” 🫶

Today is Harm Reduction Day 💜

At Spark Substance Misuse Service, harm reduction is at the heart of what we do. We know that every step towards safety matters, and support should always be available without judgement.

Our harm reduction services include: • Needle exchange to help reduce the spread of blood-borne viruses and prevent infections
• Safe disposal of used equipment
• Naloxone training and supply to help prevent opioid overdose deaths
• Advice on safer injecting, safer drug use and reducing risks
• Health and wellbeing support
• Access to treatment, recovery services and ongoing support

Harm reduction saves lives, protects health, and helps people stay connected to support until they are ready for their next step.

Before going into treatment, life was difficult; I had a poor relationship with my mum, I wasn't being present for my children, and my mental and physical health were suffering.

Going through treatment with Spark was life-changing for me. I was given tools to make positive changes that have not only had an amazing impact on my life but also on those around me 🙌

We loved hearing the laughter coming from this room today ✨

Amazing group delivered by an amazing lady Ali Kahn Comedy who we are lucky to have delivering this to our brave clients and team reps ✨

We can’t wait for the showcase 🎭

Mid way through a Comedy Programme I am delivering with people accessing the drug and alcohol recovery service Spark BWD.

Having over 12 years in recovery myself these projects hit deeper for me.

Watching fellow recovering addicts trying to find the light and showing up for themselves is a beautiful thing.

Today they ended their week on a Friday bopping around in a room - giving it large to some tunes creating their own comedy Tik Tok dance...and feeling the utter joy in the room.

No judgement.

Just a few moments of freedom, connection and true presence.

Having a laff.

In that moment they were piddling themselves - no need for alcohol or drugs.

A natural high, a buzz, a feeling of hope.

I'll having that.

What a ruddy privilege to do the work I do.

Friday mornings at Spark = laughs, confidence, and creativity 🎭✨

Our Comedy Club is officially underway, with everyone working hard to develop their ideas and build towards an exciting final showcase. The feedback so far has been amazing – full of energy, honesty, and plenty of humour!

We can’t wait to see how these routines grow over the coming weeks 👏

Great to attend the Routes Community Forum today, where the theme was Relapse Prevention.
Our team from Spark Substance Misuse Service were proud to deliver a service share, highlighting the support we offer to individuals around relapse prevention, recovery planning, and ongoing wellbeing.
It was fantastic to connect with partners, share knowledge, and work together to strengthen support across our community. Thank you to everyone involved for such a valuable and inspiring event.
