🌈 LGBTQ+ History Month – Science & Innovation 🌈
Research consistently shows that LGBTQ+ people face higher rates of substance use due to minority stress, discrimination, and unmet mental health needs. Science and innovation in addiction treatment remind us that one-size-fits-all support doesn’t work.
LGBTQ+ individuals and specialist organisations have led the way in developing safe, affirming, and tailored recovery pathways — addressing trauma, co-occurring anxiety and depression, and barriers to accessing support.
At SPARK, we recognise that inclusive, evidence-based care saves lives and strengthens recovery 💜

Dry January might be over — but the reflection doesn’t have to stop.
Whether you stayed alcohol-free, cut back, or simply noticed your habits a little more, that still counts. 💬
It’s not about perfection — it’s about awareness.
If January brought up questions, worries, or felt harder than expected, you don’t have to deal with that alone.
SPARK offers confidential, non-judgemental support whenever you’re ready.

🎉 Dry January: done. 🎉
Whether you completed the whole month, cut back, or just paused to reflect — that still counts.
Dry January isn’t about being perfect. It’s about noticing habits, checking in with yourself, and learning what works for you.
As January ends, ask yourself: 💭 How did I feel? 💭 What did I notice about my drinking? 💭 What do I want to take forward?
If cutting back felt hard, or brought things up you didn’t expect, you don’t have to deal with that alone. SPARK is here to offer confidential, non-judgemental support — whenever you’re ready.

It was great to see so many people in attendance at the Roots community forum today. Themed around Ketamine and co***ne, there was lots of discussion and engagement around the local work.

Jess from our team did a fab service share, raising awareness of the support across our collaborative linked to Ketamine that can be accessed. It was also important to highlight the recent drug alerts and share harm reduction linked to this, with Naloxone available to take away today.

As always, it was lovely to see the connection in the room with the community supporting each other whilst having fun! Thanks Red Rose Recovery for another great day.

The next forum will be on Wednesday 25th Feb 😁

A massive thank you to our friends at B&Q for their incredibly generous donation of daffodil bulbs to our SPARK Community Gardening Project.

🌼 This support means the world to us. These bulbs represent more than just flowers; they are symbols of hope, growth, and new beginnings for the people in recovery and their families who find solace and connection in our garden 🌼

Our project is all about creating a therapeutic, inclusive space where cultivating beauty and growing fresh produce helps participants develop skills, improve well-being, and strengthen community bonds.

We can't wait to see this spring burst into colour, thanks to B&Q!

🛑 Important safety message🛑
We’re deeply concerned by recent reports of deaths in the North West linked to nitazines — extremely strong synthetic opioids that are being found in the drug supply.
Nitazines are far more potent than he**in and can be present without people knowing, increasing the risk of overdose even with very small amounts. This is putting lives at serious risk.
If you or someone you know is using:
• Never use alone
• Start with a small amount
• Carry naloxone
• Avoid mixing substances
• Know the signs of overdose
• Seek help early
You’re not alone, and support is available. SPARK is here to offer non-judgemental, confidential support for anyone affected by substance use.
