This week, we celebrated World Hand Hygiene Day - focusing on what matters most - your safety.

Hosted by IPC Lead Natalie Parry, our teams took part in interactive activities to better understand how germs spread, from “catching the ball” exercises to checking for bacterial transfer, soap and glitter demonstrations, and quick-fire quizzes.

Chosen through our local schools competition and a hospital-wide vote, the winning entry came from Arthur, a stellar pupil at Westholme School With Star Wars Day here, the name feels like a fitting debut - a playful nod to innovation that’s already making a real difference in our theatres.

Arthur, his family and the fantastic team at Westholme joined us at Beardwood, where he met Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons Mr Dinesh Alexander and Mr Lee Hoggett, asked plenty of questions, and saw R2Knee2 up close.

It was great to take Consultant Oncologist Dr Parth Desai to Barrowford Surgery to deliver an educational session for their GPs and clinical team.

Dr Desai shared his expertise in breast cancer, using real-life case studies to walk through his clinical thought process, treatment decisions, and patient outcomes. The session was a truly open forum, with a two-way conversation and thoughtful questions from the practice team throughout.
