Whilst delivering su***de intervention training at today - I had to visit my favourites - platform 5 to say hi , have hugs and drop off a sticker for their main entrance . Anyone who knows this organisation knows how much this charity has done for our communities children and young people over the decades . It’s been my privilege to have some small input since it began decades ago with Edna Arnold and Paula Kanuick to the present day . My time spent with the young people will forever hold a place in my heart and soul . This campaign and it’s easy to use QR code will help anyone who uses this resource and who walks by . ***deprevention

Another day - another powerful placement of the Get help now campaign. Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Public Health service have led with this campaign which is supported by local service providers . Being able to contact appropriate services in a timely manner provides communities with much needed support at a time which meets need . Sometimes it’s difficult for us to reach out and ask for help , having a QR code readily available for us to use can help break any stigma or uncomfortable feelings or thoughts . It’s really important that we all get behind this campaign and others such as the Orange Button Scheme in order to support positive community and individual health and wellbeing . Many thanks to staff supporting the campaign at The Fernhurst pub - near for placing on the main doors . This will help many people .

The 2025 Social Prescriber’s Christmas celebration event.Anyone who attends the regular meetings, held at various community locations across Blackburn with Darwen over the year, will value as I the incredible value of coming together, sharing knowledge and service information. It brings with it for me a sense of “we”.
The celebration event is exactly that-it’s a celebration of how together-we all make a positive difference for the community and for each other.
Of how “ we” is always so much more powerful than “ me”.

Another not so subtle “ gorilla sticker “ application with the most wonderful of souls Lara McNally . Creating positive change comes from action , authenticity and passionate compassion. The staff at in Blackburn were super supportive in placing the “ get help now “ stickers front row and centre in their entrance . Thousands of people pass those doors on their way to and from the train station and all the sites around the cathedral. Having this amazing resource where our community is matters .
Please use your voice to support this campaign and be a change maker .

The “ Get help now” campaign in Blackburn with Darwen is being led by Public Health and is supported by all partner organisations.
“ Get Help Now is a visual identify for the urgent support that’s available to anyone in crisis in Blackburn with Darwen, when they don’t know where to turn.
Window stickers with the Get Help Now branding are appearing in shops, cafes and community venues across the borough.
The eye-catching Get Help Now stickers have a QR code that takes people to the Be Well BwD website with details of all the support available to them locally and nationally, with a particular focus on the support that’s available outside of office hours.”
I particularly value the use of orange as its main colour-which ties in beautifully with the Orange button campaign https://lnkd.in/e9jj5aci
Knowing how and where to get appropriate ,timely support is imperative.Su***de prevention and intervention begins with us all creating safe, non judgemental and boundaried environments for ourselves and each other.
Both campaigns will have a huge positive impact and I am beyond honoured to play a small role in them.
Huge thanks to Josh Murphy & HQ Blackburn for being such passionate supporters. Many people utilise the Kings Court site and huge amounts of people walk past the main doors every day and night.Having the Get help now contact so visible will make a huge positive change.

Today is . A day which marks 16 days of action . Where we , as a community stand together against violence on women and girls . I don’t think wherever we stand on the political spectrum anyone can doubt that there is still a global issue with violence perpetrated on those who identify as female . Today is a call to arms - especially for our Brothers to stand up against misogyny, against sexism and in particular violence. We ask that you , alongside us , call out any kind of hateful behaviour to create a safer environment for all of us . We ask for us all to speak up . To not tolerate abuse or stay silent in those environments. Please use your power and be the change . More women die by su***de in environmental domestic abuse situations than by the hands of their abuser ( the domestic homicide project UK 24-25 ) and potentially increase risk to others around those circumstances.

No surprise to anyone who knows me that the infamous “stress bucket “ is having an adventure with me on stress awareness week ! Might be an old model ( with a hundred tweaks from others over the years ) but for me - it’s a great helper .
My bottom line with this model is it must begin with authentic inventory. Right now - what is causing me anxiety ? Similarly- what do I know through experience helps get rid of the effects of stress . That leads me to then look at how I can manage the stressor’s ( must I do this task ? Is there someone better suited I can ask for help ? Must I attend that meeting ? Must I keep this relationship even ! And a million other ways of assessing and managing a million things ) and then how and when and I’m going to do those things . Meentime - how can I get rid of all the physical , emotional, psychological etc effects that the stress is causing me . We all have so many ways - hopefully - that we can get rid of those toxins bounding round our bodies and mind . The five ways to wellbeing ( be active , connect , keep learning , take notice and give ) are my go to’s . First thing I always try to do is move . But we’re all different and personally - I pop around all sorts like a pinball machine! What I also do is forget to do it . And then I wonder why my stupid brain won’t shut up . Why I’m led in bed ruminating . Why my jaw is so clenched I give myself ear ache ….
So this week I’m very much trying to practice what I “ preach “ . I loathe being a hypocrite. So it’s music , dancing ( to the dogs amusement ) good food and company and some art making . I’m on day three and it’s already helping . Now to keep it up …

Day two of stress awareness week . Something I’m working on personally is noticing how I feel when I’m around others . How does my interaction with an individual actually feel , what is my body telling me . How do I feel when I get a message from them , an email . When I picture their face do I feel calm , happy , supported , interested or do I feel judged , insecure , like I need to be “ ready “ . Our day to day relationships, be they work , family , friends or the wider community matter very much . Use this week as a means to doing a kind of inventory , if any of those relationships don’t feel safe , balanced and healthy then maybe it’s time to try and resolve any issues if possible or maybe it’s time to manage them differently. The “ fawn “ response is well researched and sadly , for many people who have experienced ongoing trauma or anxiousness it becomes an almost comfortable state for us to live in . It’s a path well trod . If only we worked harder , tried to be a more accommodating partner , friend , family member then people would be kinder to us . Would value us . Wouldn’t have the power to make us feel on edge . Maybe this week we could all try to alleviate this type of stress a little , or at least notice how we feel in all our relationships. And maybe reflect on how we think we affect those around us too .

This November, we're proud to launch a free, face-to-face bereavement support service for adults, children, and young people aged 5–25 across Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.

Grief affects everyone differently. For some, it brings sadness or confusion; for others, it’s about staying strong for those around them. Whatever you feel, this service offers a safe, gentle space, a place to talk, be listened to, and begin finding your way forward.

Shaped by what we’ve heard from local people, the drop-in sessions are designed to be community-focused, confidential, and accessible to all, with no referral or waiting list, just understanding and support when it’s needed most.

We’re proud to collaborate with our local delivery partners, Age UK Blackburn With Darwen, Community CVS, One Voice Blackburn, Blackburn Rovers Community Trust, The WISH Centre, Serenity Self Care & Wellbeing and Re-Align Futures, whose practitioners will lead the sessions with warmth, empathy, and experience.

Together, with the support of our members, we’re creating welcoming spaces where people can connect, share and begin to heal because no one should have to face grief alone.

Day 1 of International stress awareness week . Many organisations are unaware that they have a legal responsibility to address work place stress . Work related stress remains one of the leading cause of ill health at work and yet is severely under disclosed and underreported.
Often times it is only when an employee or volunteer becomes mentally or physically so unwell they are unable to work or they underachieve due to the effects of stress that anything is actually acknowledged. And often - we put responsibility firmly on the shoulders of the individual. We must address this with compassion and understanding if we are to make positive changes which benefit both the individual and the organisation

It still genuinely shocks me how normalised so many workplaces look at huge levels of ongoing stress . How they minimise it . How they often look at employees who take their breaks - work their contracted hours etc as being “ less than “ . We have created environments which are literally toxic and when individuals quite understandably struggle with the horrific physical , psychological and emotional consequences- they victim shame .
This is not how we should be behaving with ourselves and each other
