We are still able to provide face to face consultations if deemed appropriate following a triage call prior to the appointment.

Generally speaking... No
Your spine is an extremely strong structure designed to withstand lots of pressure. It's layered with muscles and ligaments. The building blocks of your spine, your vertebrae, fit together to give further stability.

Despite this, there is a common belief that your back is unstable and likely to "go" if you bend. These beliefs can result in behaviours and movement patterns which can actually be more harmful to your back eg moving in a protective, guarded way.
In fact, there is medical evidence out there to support that bending is not harmful, with studies showing no relationship between bending and lower back pain intensity.

Of course repetitive, sustained bending in a back lacking appropriate muscle strength may lead to injury. However this is not exclusive to bending and can be true of other repetitive movements. A thorough physio assessment can identify any such weaknesses and set you on the path to recovery.

Meet our new physio!

Aleix is our new physio at Total Physiotherapy Blackburn. He qualified in 2015 in EUG Barcelona where he started his career working in the elderly field. In 2018 he decided it was time to move on and came to the UK to develop his career where he started working at Total Physiotherapy Burnley treating MSK and sporting injuries and receiving good feedback from his patients.

He is dedicated and committed with his patients and will do his best to help you by providing an excellent hands on treatment combined with a home exercise programme tailored to your needs.

Aleix is available Mondays 13:30 – 17:30 and Thursdays 9:30 – 13:30. If you want to book an appointment with Aleix you can reach us on 01254 202 657!
