🚑 National Sepsis Day 🚑

Today we’re raising awareness of sepsis – sometimes called blood poisoning – a life-threatening reaction to an infection.

Sepsis can affect anyone, but it’s more common and more dangerous in:

👶 very young children
👵 older adults
💉 people with weakened immune systems, or serious illnesses

Spotting sepsis early saves lives.

Look out for the signs:
#
• Slurred speech or confusion
• Extreme shivering, muscle pain, or fever
• Passing no urine in a day
• Severe breathlessness
• Skin mottled, pale or bluish

If you or someone else shows these symptoms, seek medical help urgently – call 999 or go to A&E.

🚨 New Safety Advice on Slush Ice Drinks 🚨

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued updated guidance on slush ice drinks containing glycerol:
• Under 7 years – should not have them.
• Ages 7–9 – limit to one 350ml drink in a day.

Before buying, ask the seller if the drink contains glycerol – if you’re unsure, it’s safest not to buy.

⚠️ In young children, glycerol can cause:
• Sickness
• Headaches
• Low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia)
• Shock
• Loss of consciousness
