Offering Single Session Power Hours because change doesn't have to be complicated.

14/05/2024

We don't always need or want to join a club, sign up for a membership, join a sisterhood or have 6 sessions of therapy.

We don't always have the time or money to invest.

That is completely ok.

Although all of the above can be incredible, i want to offer an alternative.

Recognising the reality of your life might not include such a long term commitment, and recognising that a lot of people are doing the right things for their body, mind and soul already.

Sometimes all we need is 1 hour to check in, ask a couple of questions or explore an outdated make up bag for some new tips and tricks. Talk about your menopause and get some advice, or explore a new skincare routine ahead of summer.
Maybe you need to revisit the condition of your mental health and have a private conversation in a safe space ?

Online and in the comfort of your own home.

1 hour for you. That's it. No strings. Get in, get out.

Leave the call armed with what you need to continue to be the amazing human you are.

Coming soon at LCC .........

The Single Session Power Hour.

Hello!

I know its been a while since you've heard from me but ALOT has happened!

I've started my clinical placement which has turned out to be one of the most rewarding and humbling experiences in my entire life.
I have the honour of working with people who are referred to the hospice for bereavement counselling.

I feel extremely lucky to be able to add this skill to my tool kit, one which, thankfully, has come very naturally to me, and one where I can help others navigate some of their grief and loss journey.

Lucy Collins Coaching continues to evolve as i aquire more knowledge and expertise, expanding my passions to include new ways to help others.

With that said i am working towards a new kind of service. Perhaps youll see a clue in the updated bio on this page, and i cant wait to tell you all about it soon!

November!

New month, same favourite things about my morning routine.

1 Creating a cosy mood in the home

2 Coffee with coconut oil

3 Using the left over coconut oil as a lip balm

Re-frame your thinking around your health and wellness habits to one of adding in, upgrading or increasing not one of taking away or stopping and watch how much easier it is to hit your wellbeing goals.

Happy new month you lovely lot x

I've been thinking about 2024.

I know. Don't hate me.

But it isn't really that far away, and I wondered if you, like me, set out some goals this year ?

How is it going ? Did you achieve what you wanted ? Or are you a fly by the seat of your pants kinda human ?

This got me thinking about how unpredictable life can be sometimes, and that we can with all the best will, intention, mindfulness and planning STILL be thrown off course by lifes fun and games.

This also got me thinking about TRUST.

Who has got us this far in our lives ? We have.
Who has done the hard things and survived ? We have.
Who has messed up, made mistakes, course corrected and continued ? We have.
Who has survived heartbreak, loss, rejection, disappointment, not getting our dream job, losing a friend, lover, house, car ?

We have.

And guess what that teaches us ?

That we CAN TRUST ourselves. We are still here, surviving and thriving ( possibly alternatively :) ) but we are ok. We made it this far.

So today, whatever you are doing, please know that you can trust in yourself. You have definitely got this. The evidence screams victory.

Have a great day, you lovely lot x

Its SO DARK !!!!

I don't know about you, but I say it every autumn, isn't it dark in the mornings now ? Or, doesn't it get dark early ? :)

On this dark and early mid week morning here are 10 useful tips on how to sustain your mental and physical health during the seasonal changes - especially into one where we have less daylight to lift our mood. I've finally found a list of "tips" that doesn't make me roll my eyes too much!!

Number 9 is my favourite - what's yours ?

Have a great day you lovely lot ! x

BLOODY HELL! WHAT A FATTY I was yesterday.....

It was the hubby-to-be birthday day and wow did we EAT !

Breakfast with all the trimmings
Lunch with soup and ALL the bread, cheese and dips
AND 2 helpings of banoffee pie. Yes 2, do you not know me ??? :)

Did i stop there ?

Oh No....

We then went out last night for a MASSIVE Chinese meal.

So, this morning when I get up, puffy faced from foods I don't usually eat, do I feel sh*tty about myself and hate my choices ?

ABSOLUTELY NOT.

What is life without joy ? Without a little off the rail behaviour ?

OK, so yes I'm a bit bloated and puffy but I get right back on it.

I worked out this morning, had my usual breakfast, and today will resume as normal. I will make conscious healthy decisions and I will make sure that despite the bloody awful weather I will walk the 50 minute round trip to work.

Life is highs and lows, life is great food choices and walking but it is most definitely about the cake too !

Don't beat yourself up for one joyous day of indulgence. Get right back on it the next day and be kind to yourself.

Have a fab weekend you lovely lot !

This rainy Friday lets talk about how to talk.

Us girls LOVE to talk about our feelings, we gather around kitchen tables or catch up on the phone for hours. We connect and relate to each other even as strangers at the shops when someone says "oooh I'm having a moment" and fans her face frantically.

BUT.......

If you have a man as your partner or husband and you are a woman going through the peri or menopause, or if you are part of the LGBTQIA+ community and are experiencing menopause or your partner is, HOW do we have those conversations and be UNDERSTOOD ?

Its hard to understand something you never experience. It is even harder when it involves understanding messy emotional states and hormones. So, how can we help ourselves, our partners and our families relate, empathise and support us during the menopause ?

Here are my top tips for having those sometimes difficult conversations:

1 - Pick your moment.
Consider having the chat at a time when the other person is available to you fully to actually hear you. When they are relaxed, not distracted and you have their full attention.
DONT have big conversations at bed time, in bed.

2 - Find out what they know about the menopause.
What do they know about the menstrual cycle full stop - you'd be surprised how many adult men still don't know much at all about our cycles.
Once you know where they are at, then you can start from there. Its no good talking about oestrogen declining when your partner doesn't know what a cycle is yet.

3 - Plan your conversation.
What do you need them to understand? Is it that you are low in confidence, have anxiety suddenly, are losing your hair or is it that you are feeling ratty and angry at the moment and you want to explain why and that its not them.
Pick no more than 3 things you most need the other person to know. Little bits of critical info will be more easily received and remembered rather than a long rant when you're emotional and crying after 2 glasses of pinot! ( absolutely not speaking from experience here ) !!!

You deserve to be understood. Your partner also deserves to be involved and included in a way that works for them, for you both.

GOOD NEWS! If you or you and your partner need support with these conversations I can help.
We can work together online from the comfort of your own space to facilitate healthy conversation, clear understanding and deeper connections.
Drop me a what's app now for a free 20 minute consultation.

I wonder if any of the men or partners in our group here would be brave and kind enough to comment below if the above is helpful and if you have any of your own thoughts / experiences you'd like to share ?

Have a great Friday and KEEP TALKING x

October is here and its Menopause awareness month!

Oh we are aware thankyou!!!

Every month, every exhausted week, every angry day or anxious minute. If you are in peri or menopause the chances are you will be VERY aware. ALL the time.

Why do we feel symptoms in so many different ways and why do they vary from itchy ears to restless leg, hair loss to acne ?

Oestrogen does not go quietly!

Oestrogen doesn't gently wave you off at the train station of your hormones, oh no, it disappears in roller coaster fashion, up and down, up and down, enough to have you throwing up behind the dodgems.

( This is why your blood test might come back as ok for oestrogen one day and not the next - you'll need tests done over a period of time to accurately get a reading ).

Oestrogen is also in every single cell in our body. That's why symptoms can be so varied and so unique to each individual.

We are made "Menopause Aware" from every cell in our body.

GOOD NEWS is that we have fabulous campaigns like October being Menopause Awareness Month. We CAN have these open conversations - imagine how our mothers and grandmothers had to suffer in silence - We CAN tell our employers we need accommodated working - We CAN talk to our husbands or partners and WE ARE NOT CRAZY LADIES anymore !!!!

I for one am grateful.

Happy October you lovely lot x

Picture this. Really see it in your mind!

You are at the top of your career or at the most demanding point in your life and menopause hits.

Who do you have to help you that has an understanding of the demands of a senior corporate role, the challenges of having your own business or how tough it can be to parent a teenager whilst you go through the menopause ?

Me.

And this is how it looks.

You pop open your lap top or iPad and you see me.

In the comfort and quiet of your chosen space you can be fully yourself to have the honest conversations needed to instigate change.

We meet when it suits you and you can show up exactly as you are, knowing you will be seen and heard. Knowing you have someone at your side who has a plan to help you.

Even at the most challenging point in your life, when menopause hits, you have help. You just need to want to feel better.

You deserve to continue to thrive. You deserve to feel great.

So, picture this. This is how we work together.

Who doesn't love a good flapjack ? Especially one that has healthy ingredients, packs a high protein punch and tastes so good you'll be dancing round the kitchen!

Increasing your protein intake helps with sugar cravings, building lean muscle and keeps you feeling full, all of which support you during menopause.

I'm OBSESSED with this recipe as its quick and easy to do and can be adapted by adding in your favourite extras like chis seeds, turmeric, coconut or dates.

I batch make these each Sunday and have as my on the go breakfast.

Just chuck all the ingredients in a bowl, mix well and pour into a baking paper lined try to bake for 25/30 mins at 180 fan.

This recipe makes around 12 flapjack squares. They also freeze well, so you can make more than you need, and save them for a later date. Recipe from Holland and Barrett online.

• 250g porridge oats
• 150g whey protein powder
• 200g peanut butter
• 2 tablespoons of honey
• 100g dark chocolate morsels
• 150-200ml milk

Comment below once you've made them and I would love to know how you make them your own with those added extras !!!

Pumpkin Spiced Latte season is here, YIPEEE!
The season formerly known as Autumn gets me reflecting on the changing seasons and especially our menstrual cycle.

Did you know that we can look at our menstrual cycle in the same way we look at the seasons?

You see, as nature is so much a part of our body, we can notice how we feel during the different phases of our cycle is very similar to the seasons - let me show you;

Menstrual phase = Winter
Feeling quiet, turning inwards, reflective, blankets, needing warmth, solitude, slowing down.

Follicular phase = Spring
Awakening, new starts, raising energy, lighter, happier, looking outwards.

Ovulatory phase = Inner Summer
Sunny thoughts, high energy, feeling our best, social, confidence is high.

Luteal phase = Inner Autumn
Candles, slowing down, comfort seeking, rest, reflective less energy.

Why is this helpful to know ?

What if we aligned our lives including exercise, nutrition, work schedule to work with the menstrual seasons ? We plan our most important meetings for the Summer phase, we slow our exercise routines down during Inner Autumn and in Winter phase we planned a day to rest completely. This allows us to work with our cycle, not against it, and when we do it can improve the experience we have, making periods easier to live with and helping difficult symptoms become less. This can be extra helpful during peri menopause when periods and their symptoms can become especially tough.

OK, so perhaps not all of this is possible given our busy lives, but i wonder if, as you sip your PSL this week, you might think about the seasons of your cycle and how you can fine tune your wellness habits to work in harmony with your cycle, your life and your body.
