Our team's first outing promoting the Bowel Screening Service at Warren Manor Day Centre!

It was great to see so many people keen to get the help and advice they need to have their bowel screening, even getting photos with our bowel screening photo frame!

Bowel cancer is one of the UKโ€™s most common cancers, so this service is vital in helping people with learning disabilities who are less likely to complete their screening - meaning they often miss out on early detection.

Weโ€™ve listened to feedback from Healthwatch Doncaster and the Doncaster Deaf community - and weโ€™ve made an important change to make our out-of-hours service more accessible.

A new doorbell system now ensures Deaf and hard of hearing patients can easily gain entry when the centre is closed to the public. Our team has also worked with Healthwatch and the Doncaster Deaf Society to create a short British Sign Language (BSL) video explaining how the process works.

Weโ€™re proud to launch a new pilot service in Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre, supporting people with learning disabilities to take part in the bowel screening FIT test.

Bowel cancer is one of the UKโ€™s most common cancers, but over 90% of people survive when itโ€™s diagnosed early. Sadly, people with learning disabilities are less likely to complete screening - meaning they often miss out on early detection.

This pilot aims to change that by providing individualised support, including easy-read resources, visual aids, British Sign Language videos, and one-to-one guidance.

Weโ€™re working closely with carers, families, GP practices, PCNs, social workers, social prescribers and learning disability teams to make bowel screening accessible, inclusive and effective.

An NHS Health Check takes 30 minutes and is a really useful way to get a better understanding of your current level of health, as well as any future risk factors.
