WHEN CAN YOU RUN POST ACL REPAIR?🏃
Have you recently injured your ACL? If so, this post will be of interest to you!
Returning to running is a major milestone in the ACL rehab process, and is a common activity that patients want to return to, but when is it SAFE to do so?❓🤷🏼
Rambaud (2018) suggested the above criteria in their study. 👆🏻
1) Minimal pain, below 2/10 ideally
2) Similar knee flexion to the unoperated side
3) Equal knee extension to the unoperated side
4) Minimal swelling around the knee
5) Quad and Hammy strength within 70% of the unoperated leg (this can estimated with capacity tests or with IKD/HHD systems if available)
6) Within 70% of the unoperated leg on a hop test battery (forward, lateral, triple)
7) Minimal dynamic valgus on functional tasks
If all of these are achieved, then a graded return to running programme can be started✅
It is important to consider attaining these criteria, rather than waiting X amount of time!📈
