Upcoming changes to the NHS app for Android and IOS
Posted on:30th January 2025

Apologies for this being technical but I wanted all our patients to be aware of the upcoming changes to the NHS app, especially if you have an older model mobile phone.

If you have older friends and relatives who may not be as tech savvy as younger people, please do assist them to check if their phone has a front facing camera and is on at least Android version 8 or above, or IOS version15 or above
If older friends and relatives are more tech savvy than you, please ask them for help!

If the phone is not on the the minimum version of Android or IOS and can’t be upgraded then users will need to access their NHS App services via their NHS Account using a web browser

The NHS has a duty to deliver on a number of health commitments in relation to the Armed Forces community (service personnel (regular and reserves), their families and veterans). There is a lot of information about this on our Practice Website, including the link below to the Veterans’ Foundation, Blackpool FC Community Trust.

Do have a look at their website, there's lots going on for our Armed Forces community

Supported through funding from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund and Veterans’ Foundation, Blackpool FC Community Trust are proud to host a range of armed forces programmes within the Community. This includes serving personnel, families, veterans and families of veterans.

Now that wintertime is drawing closer, alongside your trusty hats, coats and gloves one more crucial item to your winter routine: a strategy to prepare for and prevent colds and flu.

Colds and flu affect 15 million people each year in the UK and are much more common in the winter months. Lancashire and South Cumbria is running a local cold and flu campaign to help raise awareness of how people can prepare for these illnesses, what they can do if they get ill and when they need to see the doctor or visit a community pharmacy.

The information materials in this campaign help explain what you can do to help prevent the spread of germs that can cause colds and flu and simple preparation measures in case you do become ill. They also explain how long you can expect the various symptoms of colds and flu to last. And remember: a few proactive measures can safeguard you, your family and friends from catching a cold or flu.

Men of Lancashire and South Cumbria, and Marton Medical practice. This is for you. It could save your life!

When you turn 65, the NHS invites you to be screened for an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA). This is where the walls of the aorta weaken with age and swell up – if you have one and it bursts, it is likely to be fatal. An AAA has no symptoms, so getting screened is the only way to find out if you have one.
Screening is a quick and pain free ultrasound, and you find out your results there and then. You will automatically receive your invitation in the post – please don’t ignore it! It could save your life.
If you are over 65 and have never been screened, you can still make an appointment by calling your AAA screening team on 0191 445 8747. You can also call this number if you need to rearrange your appointment.
For more information, visit www.gatesheadhealth.nhs.uk/services/aaa/ and watch our AAA Video: https://fb.watch/7tORZvND2n/
