I AM FREE OF BOTH CANCER AND SEPSIS!!!
I AM A SURVIVOR!!
This is my journey..
On dec 11th I was told I had an 8cm mass on my kidney, after a biopsy on 27th dec it was confirmed I had grade 2 clear cell papillary renal cell carcinoma..
Feb 25th I had a full nephrectomy where my kidney and cancer contained within it was removed.
Unfortunately I had complications during surgery where my artery was damaged which caused a massive hemotoma, this in itself was painful and continuously leaked out of the keyhole port from surgery.
I was hospitalised for 11 days, 5 of which I was on surgical high care.
After returning home I was under the care of the district nurses for 16 days but unfortunately my wound got infected.
The wound had turned into 2 abscesses and I contracted Sepsis!
I can’t remember the 1st week after being hospitalised for sepsis as I was so poorly!
I was hospitalised for the next 16 days during which time I had to undergo further surgery to fit 2 drains into my back to help drain the infection.
I came home 16 days later along with the deeper drain still inside me doing its job, it remained in for a total of 3 weeks and 5 days.
Yesterday I went back to my oncologist for my follow up appointment and had the best news ever!!!
I AM CANCER FREE and it’s a very low risk of it returning
I also had my drain out yesterday as it’s done its job too!
To say I’m happy is an understatement, I do know I still have a long healing journey ahead of me from both the kidney removal and the sepsis but can honestly say I will get there.
I also want to thank both my partner, sister and a few of my friends that walked this journey with me holding my hand and supporting me throughout, without you all I don’t know of I would have made it!!
This is the reason why I’ve taken a break from doing all the things I love including working with people and fayres but health must always come 1st 💜🙏💜
