Running the Newport 10K 🏃♀️
Shock announcement… I did two runs in preparation. A 3k and a 7k. That’s it.
Usually, my pattern is: train for a few months, do the race, celebrate… then stop running for 9 months.
So why am I more proud of myself this time?
Because this wasn’t about perfect training — it was about a gradual shift in my lifestyle and behaviour.
I didn’t follow a structured running plan. Instead, my fitness came from everything except running — and that’s why it was such a shock how much easier running actually felt.
Turning up to dance class, pickleball, table tennis, netball, and mountain walks.
Taking the stairs instead of the lift.
Doing something rather than nothing.
Some days that meant forcing myself just to keep the routine.
Sometimes it meant taking a nap beforehand because I was exhausted.
Sometimes I only gave 50% effort — but I still showed up.
It meant pushing through anxiety, trying new things, meeting new people, and saying yes to challenges I’d usually avoid.
And somehow… it all added up.
Newport 10K:
No stopping.
No walking.
Finished in under 75 minutes.
This one feels different because it reflects consistency, not blood, sweat and tears.
Progress doesn’t have to be really hard work— it just needs you to keep turning up 🤍
Thanks to the groups I go to and for all the support and encouragement.... It does make a difference who you are with :-)
