⚠️ Industrial Action and temporary changes to Cheltenham A&E

Industrial action by Resident Doctors (BMA) will affect Cheltenham General Hospital’s (CGH) A&E later this week. From 8pm on Tuesday 16 Dec, Cheltenham A&E will operate as a Minor Injuries & Illness Unit (MIIU) during the strike to allow available emergency care staff to come together at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

🚑 From Wednesday 17 December, Cheltenham A&E will be open as an MIIU during the day (8am–8pm) and CLOSED overnight (8pm–8am).
👉 Normal A&E services at Cheltenham will resume 8am Monday 22 December.

❗Major emergencies will not be affected — ambulances will continue to take patients to the right place for care. NHS 111 and 999 remain available as normal.

Patients who have a planned operation, outpatient clinic or procedure between Wednesday 17 December until (and including) Monday 22 December (during the strike) should attend as usual unless they hear from us directly to advise otherwise.

With industrial action by Resident Doctors taking place from this Wednesday morning, there will be some temporary service changes in the county.

These include:
👉Cheltenham’s Emergency Department will temporarily switch to a Minor Injury and Illness Unit (MIIU) from 8pm on Tuesday 16 December
☀️Daytime (8am – 8pm): The department will operate as an MIIU from Wednesday 17 December to Sunday 21 December
🌙Overnight (8pm – 8am): The department will be closed overnight from Wednesday 17 December until 8am on Monday 22 December
🚑The Emergency Department service at Cheltenham General Hospital will resume at 8am on Monday 22 December
🚩Emergency care services will be centralised at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital 24/7 during this period of strike action.

The public are advised to only attend the Emergency Department or call 999 if their condition is life-threatening or serious.

Community Minor Injury and Illness Units and GP practices across the county will continue to provide services. The public can get advice on their healthcare options at 111.nhs.uk or by calling 111.
