It’s time for an update.
We are still on reduced staff but it’s now time to work towards bringing Kay and Anne out of furlough.

We have full PPE, we’ve been vaccinated and we are Covid tested twice a week and we clean everything between patients. In short we are are safe as you can get.

In order to bring Kay and Anne back we need to catch up with the backlog of patients who were due a test in the last 12 months.

I would like to wish all our patients a happy and safe Christmas.

The practice is now closed for the festive holiday. We will be open on the 30th and will be open 9:30 to 5:30 Monday to Friday from the 6th January.

If you have an Ocular Emergency, red eye, sore eye or sudden loss of vision please call me on 07949 698069, leave a message with your name, contact phone number and a short explanation of the problem. It would also help if you could send a clear, close up photograph of your eye and one with your lower lid pulled down. Please send the photos by WhatsApp or Messenger.

I will call you back for telephone consultation when I’m at my computer.

The emergency telephone service will not be available on 25th, 26th Dec and 1st, 2nd Jan

Sports Safety

Many of us teach our children about seatbelt and road safety but do not discuss eye protection needs in sports.

This can be done in a positive way when telling your child the reasons for wearing eye or head protection when participating in sports. It may help to point out other popular sports men and women also wear eye or head protection.

Polycarbonate safety lenses are recommended when taking part in sporting
activities as these are more shatter proof than other plastic materials and will protect the eyes better. For children with permanent reduced vision in one eye, the potential risks involved in contact sports and injury to the good eye should be considered.

Let your child know how important it is that they remember to put their protective eyewear on before taking part in any sporting activities. You and your family can lead by example by wearing a helmet when riding a bike

Contact lenses offer no protection; therefore it is strongly recommended that contact lens wearers also wear appropriate polycarbonate eye protection.

Protective eyewear is the key to sports eye safety as ninety percent of sports-related eye injuries can be avoided with the use of protective eyewear. Even if your child’s sports league does not require eyewear, you as a parent have a right to insist on protecting your child’s eyesight.

We can offer you advice on protective eyewear.

Hi everyone just thought I would send out another update.

Today the NHS announced that we can resume normal eye examinations from 03/08/2020 subject to some conditions.

1. We are fully geared up with gloves, apron , masks and visors and we are cleaning the practice between patients.
2. We prioritise which patients we see.

We are continuing our locked door policy to limit the number of patients in the practice at any given time. Patients will also be required to wear face masks.

We will be seeing patients with ocular emergencies, broken or lost glasses, patients who feel their eyes have changed and need us to supply them with new glasses.

While we can see other patients we would ask that patients who do not wear glasses, patients who feel that their eyes have not changed and patients who do not want to proceed with new glasses at this time avoid booking appointments for now. This will allow the patients the NHS deem as priority to be seen. It will also allow us to return our staff from furlough in a gradual basis as demand increases.

The practice will be staffed 5/6 days per week and the phones will be back to normal from Monday.

If you are unsure whether you should be booking an appointment at this time please call and we will assess your situation and advise you accordingly.
