If you want to do a marathon, you have to run.

Want to get better at chin ups? You have to do chin ups.

These things seem obvious right?

So why is it so hard for nutrition?

Food is 24/7.

It's easy to get.

You are never more than a 5 minute drive away from sorting that chocolate craving.

It's social and it impacts others.

But ultimately, if you want to get in great shape you have to address your nutrition.

You can't keep avoiding it with workouts, food swaps and "hacks"

You need to do the very thing you're avoiding and be held accountable for your eating.

My job is to meet my clients where they are at.

One of my clients was struggling with all the flexibility that tracking calories offers.

So she wanted to put together a meal plan she could follow every week with little to no thought.

I wasn't going to argue.

There is plenty you can learn and take away from a meal plan.

But you need to be aware of the total calories if your goal is FAT LOSS.

All we decided to do was remove one of the snack options which reduced the calories.

Everything else stayed the same.

I'm not against meal plans, I follow one.

It just needs to be calculated for your goal.

Waiting for "perfect" is just delaying your results.

Can't track calories perfectly accurate?

Aim for 80% accurate.

Can't walk 10K steps?

Aim for 7,500.

Don't have an hour to lift?

Do 30 minutes.

Stop kidding yourself that you don't have time or you don't know what to do.

Do the basics consistently.

Even if it can't be "perfect" or "optimal"

Take action and get moving toward your goal.

What's your focus for the week ahead?

This is something I ask all of clients when we check-in.

Because it's no good saying "I need to try harder"

Because yes you do.

But how?

My calories were a smidge over target.

I lost 3lbs despite me not being perfect but I'm not willing just to settle for that.

That's what got me in trouble last year.

Set yourself mini goals for your days and weeks if you want to make your long term goal a reality.

Don't just say "walk more"

When? How long for? How many steps?

This may seem like a lot to ask but it's not, when you make a solid decision, you remove time wasting 👊

Honestly, I think I'm one of the most "real" personal trainers on here 🤷‍♂️😂

But I am a PERSONAL TRAINER.

I believe I have to walk the walk.

My own bare minimums/non-negotiables/standards etc are...

3 weight training sessions a week ✅️

Walk 10,000 steps minimum a day ✅️

Eat 3 high protein meals a day ✅️

That might seem extreme to some people and it is NOT the bare minimum I ask of clients.

I meet my clients where they are at and over time bring them up to where they want to be.

I do that...by showing them I do it too.

I have off days/weeks just like everyone, but I do not and will not settle for that.

Calorie banking is a powerful tool that can help you enjoy bigger meals at the weekend and still lose body fat.

It's simple budgeting.

If you want an extra 500 calories on Saturday for a meal out, you need to take 100 calories away each day Mon-Fri.

The key is to be INTENTIONAL and plan ahead.

My only advice is, don't to too big.

Aim to keep your calories within 10% either way.

You can't just hope and pray for results.

They're earned.

You can have the most simple plan ever, it doesn't need to be complicated.

Track calories & protein ✅️

Walk more ✅️

Lift 3 x a week ✅️

That's literally all I promote and it gets results time and time again.

But you have to be intentional about WHEN & HOW you're going to get these things done.

My role is to provide the plan, support you and keep you accountable.

It's really not about the scale.

It's how you feel and who you become along the way.

Transformation is POWERFUL.

Losing 10kg is great on the scale.

But what it actually means is more confidence.

Better health.

More energy.

Less deleting photos and wearing baggy clothes.

This isn't WW.

We don't live and die by the scale.

It's just a tool we use a long the way.
