First session of physiotherapy for Fernando since he’s started his ridden career as a child’s pony!

We mustn’t forget the demand we put on our smaller ponies, who often have to manage with less experienced riders.

Has your kids pony shown some ‘naughty’ behaviour?

These behaviours can often be indicative of pain or discomfort.

Contact me to discuss how physio might help your pony!

Today I met lovely Lucan, who was an absolute angel for his treatment. Regular physiotherapy can help all of our horses, young or old.Is your horse stiff, underperforming, or just not quite themselves? 🧐

Just like us, horses benefit enormously from regular physiotherapy. Here’s why:

✅ Improves performance & flexibility
✅ Aids recovery from injury or surgery
✅ Relieves muscle tension & discomfort
✅ Detects subtle issues before they become major problems
✅ Boosts overall well-being and quality of life

Whether you’re riding for fun or competition, your horse deserves to feel their best.
✨ Keep them moving comfortably, happily, and powerfully with physiotherapy!

📞 Book a session today — their body will thank you.

Great to work with the lovely Copper today who had his first ever physiotherapy experience and was a gold star good boy ⭐️

I was able to give his owner some peace of mind today after he’d shown a few atypical behaviours and she was concerned he could have had associated pain. He thoroughly enjoyed his treatment and were able to talk through what he needs to help him strengthen moving forwards

If your horse is displaying abnormal behaviours such as reluctance to go forward, bucking, tripping, rearing, kicking etc it may be worth considering a physiotherapy assessment to help identify if there are any areas of discomfort.

First patient of the day is lovely Flump who we see regularly to maintain his hind limb arthritis due to being a long term amputee.

I don’t see all that many cats, but he’s one of my favourites 🥰

Molly thoroughly enjoying her post hydrotherapy treatment yesterday at our centre

Our treatment is fully holistic and we assess and reassess at each appointment and treat what we find so that each session is individualised to each dog.

Molly has been recovering from IVDD and overusing her shoulder muscles, we found her to have tension and trigger points and treated these with massage and laser therapy so that these compensation mechanisms don’t hinder her rehabilitation.

Next proud post is for the Marsland household Reece and Qubit and Alicia and Ping. We’ve loved working with these guys to get them in top condition for crufts and the flyball racing season ahead.

These guys looked absolutely awesome on the green carpet yesterday

Amanda and the amazing Wizard, who we see regularly, competed at in the flyball with .flyball.team yesterday and looked phenomenal. A real credit to the hard work Amanda has put in in and the collaboration of a multi-disciplinary team to keep him in top condition!

This is a fantastic post.

Obviously we have to be very sensitive to a horses signs of pain but we know from extensive evidence in the human world that image does not equal pain.

Treat the animal in front of you, not just their X-rays!

X-rays and scans show the status of the tissues being imaged BUT they don’t measure pain.

Horses can, same as people, have severe changes but absolutely no pain or conversely have minor changes sadly suffering significant pain.

We need to be aware of any signs of pain but also be aware that there is not automatically pain, as the changes can be incidental findings.

I had two cases today demonstrating this point. One with severe osteoarthritis of the hind fetlocks and one with very advanced kissing spines. If you over-read their x-rays you’d have thought the pain would have been extreme and end of the road for them. In both horses the severity of the changes in the x-rays were a complete surprise to the vets and the owners.

Future management plans and training expectations have been modified as a result of the findings. However both horses are staying in work with very caring owners and an a multi-disciplinary team supporting them.

At the moment the plan is to ride the horse in front of them each day, look out for but don’t anticipate clinical signs that are not there.

If your horse has a diagnosis, remember to care for them as horse first, pathology/injury second and take each day at a time.
