🤫 The Power of a Whisper: Helping Your Child Listen 👂

Did you know that how you talk to your child can make a big difference?

It’s easy to raise your voice when they’re not listening and you might end up repeating yourself —but whispering can actually work better 🤫

✨ Why whispering helps:

It makes children curious, so they stop and pay attention
It feels calm, not stressful
It shows kind, gentle talking
It can help calm things down when a child is shouting or feeling upset

💡 Give it a try: Next time you want your child to listen:

Go close to them
Say their name
Speak very quietly, almost like a whisper

If your child is getting frustrated or raising their voice, whispering can help bring the noise level down and make the moment feel calmer 💬

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Learning to listen takes time. Keeping things calm and simple helps children feel safe and ready to hear you.

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been sharing simple ideas and gentle tips to help your child get ready for starting school.

Starting school is a big step! Building attention and positive learning behaviours can really help children feel ready to learn 😊

Here are some simple ideas:
🎲 Play short focus games – puzzles, matching games, or “I spy”
📖 Share books together – ask simple questions about the story
⏰ Start with small tasks – “Let’s tidy up 5 toys,” then build up
🗣️ Give clear instructions – one step at a time (“Put your shoes by the door”)
👏 Praise effort – “Great listening!” or “You kept trying!”
📵 Reduce distractions – turn off TV/devices during play or tasks

✨ Helpful skills for starting school:
• Listening and following simple instructions
• Sitting and focusing for short periods
• Taking part in activities from start to finish
• Trying again when something feels tricky

Small, everyday moments can build strong learning habits 💛

👶 When Will My Baby Roll, Sit, Crawl and Walk?

It’s normal to wonder when your baby will reach these milestones 💛

✨ A rough guide:

🔄 Rolling: 4–6 months
🪑 Sitting up: 6–8 months
🐾 Crawling: 7–10 months (some babies skip this and that’s okay)
🚶 Walking: 12–18 months

All babies are different. Some babies do things earlier, and some take a bit longer—both can be completely normal 👍

💡 How to help

Let them play on the floor to move and explore
Do a little tummy time each day
Put toys just out of reach
Smile, talk and cheer them on

💬 Give your baby time and encouragement—they will get there in their own way 💛

⚠️ Safeguarding Advice for Parents and Carers ⚠️

We are aware of a viral online trend encouraging children to heat “squishy” toys, sometimes called NeeDoh or jelly cube toys, in a microwave.

This is extremely dangerous. When heated, the toys can burst and spray hot contents, causing serious burns to the hands, face, and skin.

What you can do:

• Talk to your child about the risks of copying online trends
• Remind them that not everything online is safe or real
• Never heat or microwave squishy toys
• Encourage children to speak to an adult if something online worries them

🚻 Toilet Anxiety & Toilet Phobia in Children

Many people of all ages find toilets unpleasant or uncomfortable at times. For children, this is especially common and can sometimes lead to toilet anxiety or phobia.

These worries may affect how a child feels about using the toilet and can impact their bowel and bladder habits, including:

Avoiding using the toilet
Holding in urine or stool
Accidents or difficulties with continence

✅ The good news: with understanding, support, and reassurance, most children can overcome these fears and build confidence around toileting.
