Who’s your support network? Do you feel alone?

Living with kidney failure can be overwhelming — and some days, it can feel like you’re carrying it all by yourself.

There’s the physical side of things, of course… but it’s the emotional weight that can really catch up with you. The quiet moments after a long dialysis session. The cancelled plans. The feeling that others don’t quite understand what you’re going through.

Support can make all the difference — whether it’s family, a partner, a good friend, or even someone you’ve met through this journey. And if you don’t have that right now, please know… you’re not alone. There’s a whole community out here that understands more than you might think.

So we’re asking gently — who’s been there for you? Or maybe you’ve had to be your own support?

Share your thoughts below, and let’s lift each other up. Sometimes just knowing someone else gets it is enough to make the day feel a bit lighter.

Cici, aged just three, taken too soon
06.11.21 - 12.01.25 💔👼

No parent should ever have to endure this pain. Ciara, just 3 years old, was a bright, brave little girl who fought so hard against unimaginable challenges. Despite everything, she filled the lives of those around her with love and light.

Cici battled tirelessly, enduring multiple hospital stays, infections, and setbacks, all while waiting for the kidney transplant that was meant to give her a brighter future. Through it all, her mum and dad were by her side every step of the way, never giving up hope.

On January 12th, 2025, Ciara’s little heart took its last fight. Though her journey was far too short, she leaves behind a legacy of strength, courage, and the love she inspired in everyone who knew her story.

Cici, you have touched the hearts of more people than you will ever know. You will be forever in all of our hearts.

If you’d like to support Ciara’s family during this difficult time, please visit their GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/5ef761bb 🙏

Thank you. x

🌟 Understanding CKD Stages 🌟

💡 CKD progresses in 5 stages, measured by GFR:
1️⃣ Stage 1: Normal function (GFR ≥ 90) but with kidney damage.
2️⃣ Stage 2: Mild reduction (GFR 60-89), often no symptoms.
3️⃣ Stage 3: Moderate reduction (GFR 30-59), with fatigue & fluid retention.
4️⃣ Stage 4: Severe reduction (GFR 15-29), noticeable symptoms & prep for dialysis/transplant.
5️⃣ Stage 5: Kidney failure (GFR < 15), requiring dialysis or transplant.

👉 Early detection & lifestyle changes can slow progression. Stay informed, stay strong! 💪💙

3️⃣ Stage 3a: 45-59 (Mild-Moderate)

HNY. 🍾🎉

Looking back over this year, the biggest milestone for me has to be hosting the very first KSG Support Group meet-up in Nottingham this December. I started this group to support renal patients like myself—those facing the challenges of kidney disease, renal failure, dialysis, and transplants—and seeing it come to life this year has been nothing short of incredible.

Meeting everyone in person for the first time was such a powerful moment. Hearing your stories, sharing experiences, and creating a space where no one feels alone has reminded me exactly why I set this up. I’m so proud of what we’ve built together—a true community of strength, resilience, and hope.

As we step into 2025, I’m excited to announce there will be another meet-up, and I can’t wait to connect with even more of you. If you or someone you know is living with renal failure, please reach out—I’d love to welcome you into this amazing group.

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year and all the best for 2025. May it be a year of hope, healing, and brighter days ahead. Together, we are stronger. 🌟

🎄 Merry Christmas, KSG Family! 🎄

I just wanted to take a moment to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2025!

A huge thank you to everyone who’s joined this group—whether you’re an active contributor or someone who enjoys reading along, you are the heart of what makes this space so special. The knowledge, support, and friendships shared here have exceeded anything I could have imagined, and I’m so grateful to be part of it with all of you.

This year, we had the amazing opportunity to hold our very first KSG meet-up—what a milestone! Here’s to many more in the future.

To all current members and those thinking of joining us, thank you for being part of this incredible journey. Have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year! 🎉

Stay safe, stay strong, and here’s to a brighter 2025! 💚

Will You Give the Gift of Life? 💚

Every day, thousands of people in the UK wait for a life-changing call—a chance at survival through a kidney transplant. For many, that call never comes. But you have the power to change that.

Kidney donation is an extraordinary act of compassion. Whether it’s donating to a loved one or a stranger, you could give someone a future free from the pain of dialysis and the uncertainty of waiting. Even if you’re not a match for someone you care about, the UK’s paired and pooled donation system allows your kidney to start a chain of transplants, saving multiple lives.

Imagine being the reason someone gets to see another birthday, watch their children grow, or simply live without constant pain. It’s a gift of life, health, and hope—and you can make it happen.

Could you be the hero someone is waiting for? 💚
Will you give the gift of life?

💬 Title: “A Journey Through Kidney Failure, Resilience, and Rediscovery”

At just 34, Daniela’s life changed overnight when she woke up feeling unwell. After being rushed to hospital with dangerously high blood pressure, she was diagnosed with end-stage kidney disease. Her kidney function was at 7% (eGFR), and she now relies on peritoneal dialysis (PD) to stay alive.

Navigating this life-changing diagnosis while living far from her family has been incredibly tough, impacting her mental health, relationships, and confidence. Yet, Daniela has found strength in unexpected places—through drawing, dancing, and sharing her story to raise awareness about kidney health.

💡 Daniela’s advice: “Do your research. Learn about your kidneys and treatment options. It may feel like life is ending, but you’ll find strength to keep going.”

🩺 Let’s spread awareness and support those battling kidney disease. 💚
