πŸ’œ Training and learning never stop at Dalriada Homecare πŸ’œ
A huge thank you to Paul from Nutricia who recently delivered two very informative NG feeding training sessions for our support workers.
The sessions gave our team the opportunity to build their knowledge and confidence around NG feeding, ask questions and gain hands-on understanding of the equipment and procedures involved.
As we support a number of service users with NG tubes, ongoing training like this is so important in helping us provide safe, person-centred care tailored to individual needs.
It was fantastic to see so many of our team getting involved across both sessions and sharing their experiences with one another. Continuous learning is something we really value at Dalriada, and we’re always looking for ways to strengthen the support we provide in our community. πŸ’ͺ
Thank you again Paul for taking the time to come out and support our team! πŸͺ»

Maureen is feeling very motivated today. First making battered fritters and then deciding to get started on her first Christmas cake of the year!
I think this lovely weather is giving us all a bit more positive energy πŸ₯°
*Edited to add the final product. Looks delicious πŸ˜‹

πŸ’¬ This week, Care Creates… is focusing on the social care workforce - and why fair pay, fair work and fair care must go hand in hand.

The opening blog, written by Caroline Deane, Workforce Policy & Practice Lead at Scottish Care, highlights why valuing the skills, commitment and compassion of the workforce is essential to delivering high‑quality care.

It makes the case that a better way is possible - but only when the people who provide care are properly supported and respected.

care creates meaningful careers πŸ’œ
Over 20 years ago, Steph and Connie started working together as support workers – learning the role, supporting people in their community and discovering a real love for care.
Their journeys took slightly different paths, but both grew through hard work, learning and a commitment to doing the right thing for the people they support.
Steph joined Dalriada at just 16, back when we also had a residential home. She later became a community support worker, supported manual handling training, progressed to assistant manager, became registered manager, and is now managing director.
Connie also began as a support worker, before progressing to supervisor, then care coordinator, and now assistant manager.
Their story reflects what we believe at Dalriada – that care is a career with purpose, progression and real opportunities to grow.

care creates purpose πŸ’œ
Scott is a creative and talented man who loves working with wood, slate and metal. At home, he has his own craft space where he spends time carving, making and creating things that matter to him.
Scott makes gifts for the team, creates items to raise money for charity and enjoys the sense of focus and pride that comes from working with his hands. His creativity gives his days structure, meaning and purpose.
With the right support in place, Scott is able to continue doing the things he loves – in the place he feels most comfortable.

care creates confidence πŸ’œ
Charleen has been attending a local art class with her support workers – and the difference in her confidence over time has been incredible to see.
When she first joined, she preferred to sit quietly and observe. With gentle encouragement, routine and lots of support, she began trying new things and slowly grew more engaged.
Now, she takes part in the sessions with real enthusiasm. She enjoys choosing materials, getting creative and being part of the group. Her art class has become a place where she feels comfortable, supported and proud of what she can do.
These small steps build confidence – and they show just how much the right support can help someone shine.

care creates dignity πŸ’œ
May lives with dementia, and her support has changed over time as her needs evolved. Initially, care supported her to access the community safely and enjoy familiar routines. When her husband was admitted to hospital, support adapted so she could visit him regularly and stay connected.
As May’s dementia progressed, she required 24‑hour care. Working closely with her family, social work and the dementia specialist team, a move to a care home was arranged – a place where she now feels safe, comfortable and settled.
May is thriving in her new home, supported with dignity at every stage of her journey.

care creates continuity πŸ’œ
Teresa has been supported by Dalriada for more than two decades and enjoys getting out and about with her support workers as part of her everyday routine.
When Teresa became unwell, her needs changed suddenly and she required emergency overnight care. Our team were able to put this in place straight away, supporting her through the night until she felt better and was safe and settled again.
Once she recovered, Teresa was able to return smoothly to her usual routine – back out enjoying her days and the activities she loves.
This is what continuity of care looks like – familiar faces, flexible support and trusted relationships, even when circumstances change.

care creates companionship πŸ’œ
Over time, some of our team have brought their dogs along on visits – not as a planned activity, but simply because they knew a service user would enjoy it.
The smiles, laughter and gentle clapping say it all. For some people, a visit from a dog brings back memories. For others, it’s a moment of comfort and calm in their day.
These small, thoughtful gestures are part of what makes care feel human and personal.
