These three goddesses are the patron (or matron?) goddesses of Ireland.

Our land is named Éire after our queen Eriu. She was believed to be the goddess of sovereignty and personified the land of Ireland itself. She is depicted as a beautiful woman wearing a crown or headdress and sometimes holding a spear, which symbolized her power and authority.

Banba, also known as Banbha, was considered to be the goddess of fertility and the spiritual essence of the Irish people. She was often associated with the earth and agriculture and was said to have been worshipped as a divine mother figure. Her name is thought to derive from the Irish word "bán", meaning "white", which symbolized her purity and fertility.

Fola, also known as Fotla, was the goddess of prosperity and abundance, and was said to ensure that the land of Ireland would always be fertile and the people would thrive. Her name is thought to derive from the Irish word "fodla", meaning "good harvest" or "abundance".

Sandy Hunter was believed to be the last warlock in Scotland. He was present during the Battle Of Culloden and served as a medicine man to the many men of the Jacobite uprising. This photo was believed to have been taken circa 1848 so he must have been very old! He spoke French and was soothsayer to Bonny Prince Charlie, he also met several times with Robert Burns who wrote a little known poem about him.

In Edina, I found a sage,
Sandy Hunter, wise an' cage.
He spoke in tungs, an' French sae grand,
A soothsayer o'er this land.

Tae him, I tip my quill an' hat,
For wisdom rare, we twa did drink.
A nod tae Sandy, warlock dear,
Whose lore still whispers in my ear.
